This somewhat ties into my earlier point about a Developer API, but its such a mainstream need/use it really could do as part of the application proper. Obviously a primary use of Wuala is backing up personal files, however, given how often personal data changes (and that while Wuala may indeed be super-awesome, most files perform better on a local disk rather than the integrated filesystem. Of course, if Wuala were to make its mounted fs bi-directional, users could take advantage of existing sync frameworks like Conduit or HUBackup.
It would be nice if there were more statistics in the program. Ones that I personally would like are:
Estimated time to complete upload of a file(I know upload speeds jump around a lot but maybe if you use the average for the past 10 seconds or something)
Estimated time to complete upload of all files pending
Under file uploads and downloads a time stamp with a date (for maintenance uploads too)
Total amount (MB/GB) people have downloaded from files I share (Separating Global and friends would be nice)
Total amount (MB/GB) people have downloaded from me if I share my hard drive (So if people are accessing my computer for fragments of other people's files I am curious to know total amount of information I have uploaded that is composed of other people's fragments)
i had the idea to implement a detailed view into the filefolder structure because often filenames are cut or you cannot see how big or small a file is
can you maybe implement a detailed view into one of the next versions ?
I would like to access my online-stored files with my mobile phone on the way. Therefore I would become realy happy if you could provide a client for Java midlet or (in my case) for Symbian Series60 3rd edition. Anyway - what do you think - is there a possibility to realize this for us?
havent found anything useful yet to my idea so i just post it.
how about letting wuala "observe" one directory for any new files (f.ex. images) and then upload them automatic. in googles picasa there is such a function which observes the directory and whenever a new image hits the directory it gets indexed. same function for wuala would be awesome! (making backups would be much much easier...)
if there is already such a function.. i havent seen it (maybe too blind..)
I have some files that I've uploaded some time ago that I could not download now. I have just a "FAILED" error, and I see in the download window that the download stops at some point.
Maybe Wuala crashed when I uploaded these files and the upload hadn't resumed well... or the file is not completely available on the network?
So my questions is: Is there a way to check that a file is well available on the Wuala network?
I would like to suggest the following: Intergrate a function into wuala which allows it to directly synchronise one of its folder (or more at the dispense of the user) with the actual file system automatically.
As an illustration: I use FF A LOT meaning that I get approximately 5 useful bookmarks a day (most of which originate from stumble upon just like wuala originally did). Now I want to have a backup of those files ready in case my main PC crashes. However, I don't want to rely on my 24/7 online server harddrive for a backup but instead I want also to use Wuala for backing up my data. Now it is a tidious task to do that every day by hand so I suggest that a function which automizes this at a time interval chose by the user.
Hope you like the idea (and hopefully intergrate it soon)
Kind Regards
Darkstriker
PS: Alternatively you could emulate a virtual HDD to the system so that windows users could refer to their wuala space with (e.g.) H:\ and linux users could mount it as a hdd3 or something similar. I do, however, realize that that is not very feasable seeing the wanted system independence.
I was wondering, why use NFS for the linux version, when you could just use FUSE.
http://sourceforge.net/projects/fuse-j has java bindings for FUSE that seem to work. Using FUSE should allow filesystem integration to work with fewer gotchas and root tweaks.
For me, Wuala doesn't upload/download files that are above about 300 KB. With files smaller than that everything works perfectly, but larger files are neither uploaded nor downloaded.
Downloads appear in the download-window, but progress indicators stay at 0%.
Added files get stuck in status "Backup 100%" (greyed out), upload-window is empty.
Windows Vista Home Premium; accessing the net through a router, connection check says my connection is suitable for trading though.
It seems that one earns storage as a function of 1) one's average uptime, and 2) the amount of "locally stored data." The first parameter seems reasonable, but the second is problematic.
The main reason is that it is completely outside my control. I have no way of increasing the amount of storage *used* on my computer, so I am completely at the mercy of the rest of the network. It even looks like my earned storage could decrease if the owners of the file fragments stored on my machine chose to delete the associated files.
I am allowing Wuala to use up to 20GB of storage, but after 3 weeks of use, only 3.8GB has been used.
I think it would make more sense to base the earned storage calculation on the storage limit, not the storage used.
I have Windows Ultimate 64 bit. My Computer starts wuala perfect. But after a few minutes it crashes and i can't use it. So i must always restart wuala :(
I've tried the Mode for windows XP SP2 but it makes the same...
Can somebody help me?
I'm not sure if this is on the todo list, but I think it should be. It would rock to have web access to my wuala files. Then I could, for example, access my files from any university machine without installing the wuala software on it. I know some places are ridiculously locked down, so that you can't install anything, so a browser-based solution would work well.
Ideally, I could just go to http://wua.la/ , type in my username/password and it would take me to an SSL-encrypted listing of my files. It doesn't have to be anything fancier than that.
Maybe in some distant future, you would also provide an API for accessing data on wua.la?
I would like to suggest the following helpful function:
when having a lot of firends in WUALA, it is getting difficult to remember the person behind the nickname. Instead of adding a tag to the contact wouldn ́t it be a thing to make the nickname renameable (as you can e.g. in skype) or give the chance to add an additional line which is always apparent to me?
I'm wondering if theres something like a roadmap available for the Wuala project? Would be interesting to know some future plans, features and dates. As said here: http://getsatisfaction.com/wuala/topi...
the Beta is planned to be available in the first half of 2008.
But nothing about the additional features it'll have. Would be great to get some more information about these plans.
It would be fantastic if it were possible to in addition with the "Local Data Folder" specify other directory's and how much space to share there.
So i could say like Z:\WualaShare\ -- 50GB, X:\WualaShare\ -- 200GB
I have drives that i would like to use exclusively for wuala but you can only specify one location per install. And i don't want my cache on those drives, just traded storage.
Browse files, open images, videos, documents, send them to contacts vie e-mail
Upload existing photos to Wuala or take new photos and upload them immediately

Hi People,
I am running multiple PCs at home each with at least 2 HDDs. 1 of the HDDs is meant as a backup for 'more important' files or simply to add more storage. Now my problem is that Wuala can only use space on one partition. This means that I cannot share all the space that I don't need simply because I cannot divide it.
I would love to see an option which allows me to share Folders on different partitions and set a seperate sharing-limit on each of them.
I hope that this is possible and feasible for you to integrate since it would help me a lot!
