Reported Number of Files stored in Wuala is wrong!!!

I was looking at http://wua.la and noticed that alot of files are being uploaded and since Wuala claims to backup all files on their own servers then they must be using insane bandwidth.

A quick stopwatch test will show that about 80 (or more!) files are uploaded every minute. I don't know what the average file size is but I would suspect the average to be atleast 2 MB per file which means that the Wuala servers must be downloading non-stop at 2.67 MB per second and uploading atleast 163 KB per second (due to communications overhead) non-stop!

I was also starting to suspect that the number displayed on the website is just a fake number where a random value is added every second or it is incremented by 1 every random number of milliseconds because I was thinking that surely they don't want their webserver to be hit every second (in order to update the count) by possibly millions of viewers. So I devised a strategy to test if my assumption is correct:

Open the Wuala website (http://wua.la) and leave the page (or tab) open for an hour or 2 then write down the number and refresh the page (or open another tab) and you will see that in a fraction of a second the file count has magically increased by several thousand files. The reason for this is because the random number generator that's used on the website is purely that (just a random number generator) instead of actually displaying the true count.

With this information, it should be easy to extrapolate when exactly Wuala will reach 25,000,000 files because this is not a true count.

Robocopy and Wuala drive

Hello!
I just tried synchronizing files using the file system integration of Wuala (W:) and robocopy.

robocopy C:\ W:\ /MIR

Result: Wuala crashed

I think this is because of the high traffic that robocopy generates

Is there anybody who tried Wuala with robocopy?

I only found the /IPG:n parameter for robocopy which waits n millisecondes before copying the next piece of the file

unable to download shared file

Hey there,
I had opened a thread before suggesting to add the functionality to verify the uploaded content and someone asked me if i had recent problems. I had to say no but now I do. I uploaded a file, set shared it with a friend of mine (my 2nd account) and i tried to download it there, I tried it by drag&droop and it would tell me "Cannot copy FILENAME. The remote storage service was not able to recall the file." then I tried to download it by hitting "Save As..." and the error message i got from there just \said "FAILED!". Then I tried to just hit"Download" on the file's context menu and the green download bar disappeared after a few seconds from the file and no more data are being transferred (in the status bar).
This looks like a major problem to me.... :o how can i get this file downloaded? :o

Hallo,
ich kann bei Wuala seit heute nix mehr runterladen, bzw. lokal speichern. Nicht mal meine eigenen Daten. Meine eigenen Dateien kann ich noch einsehen und über die Einbindung in den Windows-Explorer auch lokal abspeichern, aber eben nicht mehr über die Wuala- Oberfläche. In der Wuala- Welt kann ich nur manche Fotos ansehen, keine Videos und keine Musikdateien ansehen/ anhören.

Ich habe leider keine Ahnung, was ich ändern könnte. Meine Internetverbindung (WLAN) ist stabil und ausreichend schnell (6.000er DSL).

Bitte um Hinweise.

I get the error mesage on many uploaded images;

"This file has not been completely uploaded yet..."

Is there still a system problem?

It would be nice if there was some kind of icon that displayed near a folders or files name that indicated if you had write permission to the folder/file. Be it as simple as a small colored pencil when you can and grey when you cant.

How to offer more files than your wuala space allows to

I think it would be a great idea that everybody could share more files with his friends than his space would allow.
This could work this way: Every user could have an "offers"-folder in wich he stuffs all the files he wants to share with certain persons or groups.
Then only the filenames and hashes are saved, not the files themselves.
If files the user offers already exist in the wuala network, they could be "linked" to the file without being substracted from the users space contingent.
The more important idea is that people could "download" the file offers this way:
A friend clicks on the offered file, then the file is automatically uploaded by the user who offers the file and stored in the wuala network as soon as he or she signs on in the wuala network.

What do you think about this idea? Please share your thoughts by commenting this entry.

Hi folks,

I have a really annoying error.
On my server, Wuala keeps on popping up the following dialogue box:
Problem Could not upload file xxx.yyy Reason: [Path to Local Settings]\Temp\Wuala\zzz-xxx.yyy (The system cannot find the file specified)

zzz is some random goup of numbers/letters
xxx.yyy is a specific file. It occurs for the following files:
extensions.rdf
localstore.rdf
content-prefs.sqlite
install.rdf
ietabOverlay.js
chatzilla.jar
downloads.sqlite
places.sqlite

The result is that every so many minutes wuala will pop up about 20 'problem' dialogues and it is really annoying since after about 10 minutes these boxes do no longer respond and I subsequently have to kill the wuala process.

Some more info:
Some of these files seem to be files which were sent to wuala via the filesystem integration and they are (some of them) backups of my ff-settings/bookmarks etc.
None of the files show up in the 'My Uploads' field and also not under maintainance.

Hope some1 can help me fix this cause its really annoying and I don't want to reinstall Wuala since my uptime is very high and built up over month.

- Saved a file (mp3) on my desktop;
- Dragged it onto my group's music folder;
- Opened the Uploads window by double clicking in the upload icon - status bar;
- After the file got send it disappeared from the Uploads window (as it should);
- I tried to delete the file from my desktop and I couldn't - tried many times;
- Closing the Uploads window solved it - I could delete the file;

timestamp on file doesnt get changed (openoffice saved the file)

hi there,

some while back i inserted an openoffice file into the wuala datastore.

somewhen later i edited the file with openoffice. then saved it inside openoffice. the file in the wuala data store has the new content and changes. but the timestamp in the wuala gui (win32) still shows the original filedates and timestamps for both inserted and last modified.

bug? fix? thanks.

Why can't I get my file back?

I uploaded 2 mb file into my wuala space yesterday. Today I went to file properties and pressed Clear Cache button. Now when I'm trying to get my file back I have a problem: "Could not open file. Maybe Wuala is still busy downloading another file or there is no connection to the Wuala network. Please try again later. If you think this is a bug.....bla-bla-bla". How do I have to work to be sure that I can get my files back?

hi there,

during my recent upload tests via filesystem integration method (see other thread http://getsatisfaction.com/wuala/topi... ) i somewhen realized that there are hugeloads of files in %temp%\wuala\ which wasnt the case in former builds of wuala.

there are also two directories in there (download and upload)

in the actual %temp%\wuala\ folder there seem to be a very big number of "original" files which i was trying to upload into the wuala store it seems.

the filenames have been changed somewhat to

hexnumber-originalfilename.extension

example:
f3edab22-mypicture.jpg
(hexnumber is maybe some hash/crc/crc32 or something)
the files are unencrypted, so i can actually use them with the appropriate application as they all hold the actual data (pictures, and so on....)

is this some bug? anyway related to my other thread? i suppose this is a huge security risk as even with reboots, wuala clients shutdown/restart these folders dont seem to go away or dont get empied nor cleaned up and the files can be seen by "anybody" who has access to the physical machine.

this is really weird. anyone else having this behaviour? win32/winxp that is. wuala426

lately i have experimented with wuala and fileintegration on win32 (xp) and latest wuala builds (426). i was copying whole cd contents (different files, loads of folder structures) into a semi-private (group/friendshared(only 1 friend as an example/test)) to the wuala network drive (w: for example).

the copying went normally, but only some days after (this happened first some days ago, but i verified it today with other content (CDs)) i realized that the uploaded wuala content of the folder i copied the files into wasnt exactly the same as my original sources. some bytes/megabytes were missing, and i tracked down some of the files/folders that were created but only with filesize=0 (zero), or were missing completely.

i was copying the stuff with the help of total commander, so not the basic builtin explorer.exe functions, nor commandline copy stuff...

i might try some more of this stuff at a later time.

the missing/incomplete files dont seem to follow any certain rules or patterns, there are simply some folders that are completely identical/complete and some files are missing or come with zero size.

totalcommander never complained that it couldnt write to w: or anything else like that.

i was manually looking for the differences, found the missing/incomplete files and was overwriting the files on the wuala store again.

after these second tries and overwriting procedure the wuala store was eventually finally complete and identical to my source material.

i guess that some of the queues in the wuala client, the pending transactions, the chunk-creation and distribution or related functions and parts of the wuala client program are still lacking robustness.

please take a look at this and do your own tests with lots of files/folders and different objectsizes.
