I just found out two things
1) Ads are loaded in the background even if they are turned off (pro user)
2) MY GENDER AND AGE ARE SENT TO THE ADVERTISING NETWORK !!

The page Wuala loads in the background is on our website. If you have ads disabled, this page is empty. None of your personal data will be forwarded to others. The loading of the page in the background is for statistical purposes so we can better count our "pageviews". -
Inappropriate?PS: joe12, I've just checked in the source code and there is a bug that causes Wuala to load the page with ads once when opening a new Wuala window even when ads are disabled. We didn't notice this as the ads aren't shown. :( Thanks for finding this problem.

Inappropriate?I don't like your answer because I didn't find this transfer but my firewall did!
It happens every time I open Wuala or switch from ex. "my files" to "world"
And NO, I will not disable my firewall for hidden data sending!
Also, why would you count pageviews for something that is not enabled ??

Inappropriate?I really enjoy Wuala and I would continue to use it if I know exactly what information is shared with 3rd parties. This way I know that you guys are up front and aren't trying to do things behind my back.
eg.
The following information about you is shared with 3rd parties:
-Age
-hair color
-online %
-how much time is spent actually using Wuala (instead of just letting it run in the background)
-etc. -
Inappropriate?How so you know that your gender and age are sent to the advertising network? Luzius just said that none of your personal data is forward to others..

And every time (!) I change the Wuala windows or open the Wuala window my firewall shows a message of "hidden data sending" ...
I really don't like a piece of software that does something and the creator (Luzius & team) deny it.... -
Inappropriate?@joe12: about the pageviews: Pageviews are one of the most widely used measures to calculate the popularity of a website. To be able to compare us to other services, we count the number of pageviews our users generate, whether ads are enabled or not. That's why Wuala connects to our (not a third party!) website when you navigate.

Inappropriate?When ads are enabled, a frame of one of our advertising partners is shown. The site that shows the ads is:
http://wua.la/en/ad/index
If you navigate there, you see the same ads as in Wuala. It loads ads from one of our adverstising partners, so they will be able to detect that you are running Wuala as well as your IP address. If you have ads disabled, Wuala visits:
http://wua.la/en/ad/adfree
or
http://wua.la/en/ad/d
which does not show ads. However, there is a bug in the current version that lets Wuala sometimes navigate to the ads-url instead of the none-ads-url even if the ads are disabled (the ads aren't shown though). This will be fixed with the next update.
