i wonder which hash type i get with http://api.wuala.com/metadata/FILE
and if this is a hash of the encrypted file of of the original.
can i get this hash somewhere in the gui??

Inappropriate?This is an internal hash key which is not shown in the gui. As soon as we provide a small tool to create the hash of a downloaded file, this can be used to check if the download is corrupt or not.

Uploads are already checked and theoretically corrupt files will throw errors on decryption/recombination anyways I guess so I'm not sure if it's even really needed to hash them again.

Inappropriate?Can we please have an update on this? It would be very useful to me to be able to use the hash provided by the API instead of downloading the whole file and calculating my own hash, but I need to know how it is calculated.
Assuming that you are using some standard hash technique, you don't need to release a program to do the hashing. It would be enough to simply release some documentation or pseudocode (e.g. sha1(size + filedata + "wuala")). Actually, I would even prefer it over some closed source java bloat that does the same as a few lines of C, only 10 times slower.
