let wuala observe directory for automatic uploads?
hi,
havent found anything useful yet to my idea so i just post it.
how about letting wuala "observe" one directory for any new files (f.ex. images) and then upload them automatic. in googles picasa there is such a function which observes the directory and whenever a new image hits the directory it gets indexed. same function for wuala would be awesome! (making backups would be much much easier...)
if there is already such a function.. i havent seen it (maybe too blind..)

Inappropriate?Actually, it would not be that hard to implement a simple version of this. Some cases are tricky to handle, however. What does picasa do if you rename a file oder folder?

lemme explain why i want that:
i have several directories where i put sometimes photos in it. friends, stock photos etc.. its a pain in the a** to mark and upload them. if wuala would check the directory it would see "ahh. new fotos" and would upload them.

Inappropriate?That would definately a good start towards the backup functions of Wuala. I guess the best situation would be using FUSE or similar filesystems to incorporate Wuala into the system to use it with backup programs like rsync. At least for me Wuala is so far only a backup utility (faster uploads/downloads than Amazon S3 for example). -

Because now, if you store some documents on wuala, if you update them locally, you have to upload them again manually, automate this would be nice. -

Inappropriate?I think file & folder synchronization is actually hard to do efficiently. Will it be based on file piece hash? Entire file hash? File size? Time stamp? If Caleido wants to tackle this, I suggest offering sync for Local Disk first. Trying to sync network drive has many challenges and you don't see some commercial sync software offer network drive synchronization. -
Inappropriate?just got my beta key for dropbox and they get it quite good done. you get 2gb of space and if you save some files in "their" folder, it gets automatically synched. it may not be an easy task but it is possible.

Well, if one of their servers is down, you're screwed... AND they work with deltas afaik, something that is not really possible with Wualas design I fear. -
