Local Storage Size?
Hello
I'm trading 50G local storage and it says "Locally Stored Data": 22G
But when I was checking the wuala directories were the data gets stored, in fact it has used 35G:
$ du -sh * | grep G
23G Fragments2
12G Local2
But my local cache size is set to 5G and it say that it has used 4G. So I would expect to see Local2 about of the size of 5G and not 12G.
Can someone check this and tell me where the problem lies?
Thanks

Inappropriate?Fragments2 is exclusively traded storage.
Local2 is the cache & files being uploaded.
I made a note to discuss it at our next meeting.
I would not recommend deleting the folder right now. The next update should (knock on wood) fix a file maintenance bug and will likely cause that information to be uploaded some more.
I’m confident

Inappropriate? The "problem" is that Wuala uses the same cache for Up- and Downloads, but seems to only count downloads, since sooner or later the uploads are going to be finished + deleted from the cache anyway so they are not (or not always) added to the displayed figure.
If you clear your cache for example and had 5 GB displayed, suddenly 7 GB are displayed and 5 GB have been deleted from your HDD. This confuses people but is somehow logical too because after a few days you would just have 5 GB left in your cache because the uploads have been finished.
I agree though that this should be changed or at least better communicated or displayed somehow different. -
Inappropriate?This thread is related: http://getsatisfaction.com/wuala/topi...
@Bugreport: are you sure about the uploads being deleted after they're finished? I'm pretty sure that the files are still kept in cache, however Wuala doesn't consider them when you hit "clear cache"... Later I'll try to confirm that, or lets wait for an answer from the team. -
Inappropriate?Well, I as a user have no idea if all in Local2 should be there. I cleared the cash but the size didn't change. It's all in Local2/Large.
I just asked, because Local2 was about 50% of the size Fragment, what amazed me, because somewhere in the future there will be 50G Fragments, if I keep it that way. How much will Local2 be then? 25G? As User I expect that if I trade a certain amount, everything in the wuala directory counted together won't exceed this value much, otherwise I can't calculate my own disk needs and usage properly. So if I have to expect that Local2 will grow too, I probably have to reduce the trading size such, that the overall disk consumption will be about 50G.
At the moment I won't change anything because the total of 35G it still below the 50G.

Inappropriate?I checked some more. In Local2/Large are about 1400 8M files with a date of 18. Oct 2008. 3 are from 12. December 2008. Non have a recent date
So probably it's all old stuff.
If you tell me that I can delete them I will do. But I'm not in a hurry. -
Inappropriate?OK, then wait a few days and we'll sort this out ;)
The Local2 is supposed to be there, it stores the downloaded files and the uploaded files. In my opinion, the uploaded files are kept in there forever to ensure maintenace and that's the reason why it is taking all the space. The fragments of other computers are only in the Fragments2 folder.
I don't agree with this either and I've said it many times. The user must be able to control how much space Wuala takes. If Wuala doesn't force you to keep a local backup of files (like it once did, to ensure maintenance) then the user must be able to erase the uploaded files from cache. Manually erasing the Local2 folder isn't a nice solution... -
Inappropriate? Are you uploading at all? Like, does Wuala show upload activity in the bottom left?
-
Inappropriate?Everything works as expected. Yes it does upload. Like I said, the date of 99.9% of all files are from October so there was probably a problem then. At the moment it uploads with 10k/s and downloads with 80k/s.
The bigger the amount of shared data I have, the more traffic :) -
Inappropriate?I only have about 8GB in my cache to do maint on because at some point I ended up deleting some stuff due to a bug.
-
Luckily anyone who downloads them now does maint! -
Inappropriate?Since the update to do proper maintenance, has it's size decreased?
-
Inappropriate? After the last update I delete everything older than Dec 2008 in Local2/Large. There are still two 10M files from December 12. 2008. They are not gone.

Inappropriate?Local2 is your local cache of wuala-downloads. The Fragments from sharing (This are the "locally stored data") are saved in /Fragments ... Just delete the whole /local2 folder to erase you local cache completly. You will download the files again when you access them the next time. If you delete the File in /Fragments, your "locally stored data" become 0 and you have lost your earned space from sharing..

Inappropriate?I know! I don't touch /Fragments. It was a Local2 thing. Probably interrupted downloads. Anyway my problem is solved.
