Sync Framework For Automated File Backup/Centralization
This somewhat ties into my earlier point about a Developer API, but its such a mainstream need/use it really could do as part of the application proper. Obviously a primary use of Wuala is backing up personal files, however, given how often personal data changes (and that while Wuala may indeed be super-awesome, most files perform better on a local disk rather than the integrated filesystem. Of course, if Wuala were to make its mounted fs bi-directional, users could take advantage of existing sync frameworks like Conduit or HUBackup.

Inappropriate?I guess that's planned already, they might even work at it but I think there are still (even with read-only) some serious issues with filesystem integration at the moment I fear...
-
Inappropriate?Second that!
The automatic backup of files that have been changed is a no-go criteria for me.
-
Inappropriate?I haven't been able to sync with rsync or unison since the early days. What's the reason for this?
I’m a little down
-
Inappropriate?Do you have filesystem integration working?
-
Inappropriate?Yes. It will look for changes for many hours and sometimes more than a day then it will error out saying not enough space. It used to see the differences then give me an "input/output error", but now it won't even get that far.
-
Inappropriate?I've tried using every sync tool you can think of and they each error out before even copying any files. They seem to check for differences for awhile, but fail in the process.
Is there any possibility we can sync Wuala in the near future? -
Inappropriate?What OS are you using?
-
Inappropriate?I have tried syncing on many linux distros, Windows XP, and Windows Vista.
-
Inappropriate? Is this a free app you are referring to? I wasn't able to find any links regarding this software. I would like to try it if you could provide a link. Thank you!
-
Inappropriate?Erm... Cobian Backup. Sorry for the mistake.
EDIT: I didn't do intensive testing. But I tried to backup large amounts of files and it worked fine. -
Inappropriate? How big a transfer did you try? I'm trying to sync around 40gb. I tried Cobian for the initial transfer and it didn't work. I can't try it now as Cobian can't interact with files it didn't back up.
-
Inappropriate?40GB? :o That's a lot... I never tried to upload that much data at once.
The maximum size I synched was about 7.5GB. 40GB is nearly all the space I have in wuala. -
Inappropriate?Last test: 10.02GB (12880 files) and it worked.
I'm actually impressed with this. Last time I tried to use one of these backup programs I couldn't upload anything. I guess that wuala's system integration has become better.
Regarding your problem, try to separate the job into different tasks maybe? 10GB each, 4 tasks for example. I don't know what kind of files are you trying to backup so I don't know if it is possible....
I’m indifferent
-
Inappropriate?I'll keep attempting workarounds. Thanks for the heads up and hopefully I can get Wuala to sync somehow.
-
Inappropriate? If it's a 40GB single file, it likely will fail, 40 GB of individual smaller files however shouldn't be very problematic, but I'd recommend not syncing _all_ of them at once, maybe in ~5 or 10 GB chunks...
-
Inappropriate? If it is a single flie it will fail. I supposed he meant multiple files.. The problem with bigger files was reported here: http://wua.la/Wuala+Community/Bugs/On...
and it's already on the todo list -
Inappropriate?any progress on the wuala sync functionality?
