update not working on vista home premium and not able to start Wuala
My mother is living in India. I invited her to Wuala. I downloaded the client and installed it. Her system is running Windows Vista Home Premium and her account has administrativ privileges. Java is 1.6. Her Internet connection is about 128kbits fast. Then I started Wuala. It tried to update itself. But Wuala always cancels the update process. I'm not able to start Wuala at all.
My questions are the following. Do I need to disable UAC? Is there a way to manually update Wuala?
Thanks in advance

Inappropriate? The files that get updated for wuala are not stored in a location that needs "UAC elevation".
Try browsing to C:\Users\Public\Appdata\ And delete the Wuala Folder.
Then reinstall Wuala.
Let us know if it works.
I’m sad your having trouble.

Inappropriate? No it's not the same problem
I have the Screenshot of the files in the update folder in appdata in my images folder
I’m still frustrated

Inappropriate? The update process is all port 80 traffic and shouldn't have problems.
If you can get the wuala portable pack i made http://wua.la/Deathbob/Apps
Its available as files or zip. Put it on that computer and run wuala.exe It is self contained and if it doesn't work we can look into firewall / java runtime issues. If is does work the install is toast and we can see if we can fix it. -
Inappropriate? The install or the portable one? (Crosses fingers for install)
-
Inappropriate?Your portable version.
I tried also to manually copy the files from my installation. then it tried to start but failed. -
Inappropriate?Using a clean copy of the portable version. Delete Everything in C:\Users\Public\Appdata\Wuala\
Copy from (The Clean Portable Folder)\AppData\Wuala\ to C:\Users\Public\Appdata\Wuala\
Run the installed shortcut. Hopefully this will fix the update problem. Where did you get the installer? Is it a very old copy of the installer? -
Inappropriate?Yesterday I installed Wuala on another Vista "based" Laptop. It's running fine. The only difference is that i did the first with logmein, means remote. They are both Running Vista Home Premium Home SP1. They both have the same Java VM. But they differ in case of the Internet connection. One has ADSL 5mbps in Switzerland. The other one has a connection from India with only 128 kbits. I don't know about the internal handling in case of a connection break or error. But from India the updater will not finish. Now with your portable wuala is running. But downloading of files from swisstv (Groupname:Schweizer Fernsehen) is not really working. The problem seems that in case of a break the file will not be restarted/continued. Hmmm may I post this feature in another post.
No, I always downloaded the latest, in the case that the installer has changed.
I’m confused

Inappropriate?Did you try replacing the files? To get the install to run?
With wuala running. Press Ctrl+Alt+D to enter the debug menu and select Packet Loss Meter. Let is run for about 10 - 20 minutes and let us know what the values are. -
Inappropriate? Now I tried it. Not to replace but the Packet loss meter. The Values are 0 for Round Trip 0.0% for Reliability. Hmmm not too bad, isn't it?????? Now my Mom started playing Solitaire I'll do a test later.
-
Inappropriate?0% Ouch... Not a single packet is getting through. I wonder whould would cause that.
-
Inappropriate?Packet Loss Meter is still running. New values are 515 round Trip Time Reliability 0.00%
-
Inappropriate?Round Trip time 663 Reliability 1.00% yesssss ;-)
-
Inappropriate?Cool now reliability 90%
-
Inappropriate?99%
-
Inappropriate?I'm guessing something went wrong during update and corrupted install.
Q for Dev: Do you double check file hash after download before replacing existing files? -
Inappropriate? This looks really like a connection problem..
No, we do not double check files during the update process.
