What happens to data when you uninstall?
What happens when you uninstall wuala?
Here's a scenario: I share out space on my hard drive (say 5GB) to the grid.
That space is then used up by the grid, so what happens to that data when I uninstall wuala? Would I need to wait until the data is all re-assigned?
What happens if I just delete the data files?

Inappropriate?Nothing :)
First of all, there is a backup on our servers, therefore data loss is not possible just because you delete some fragements on your harddisc. Second, files are maintained by the owners. Each Wuala client reuploads fragements from time to time to guarantee availability of the file in the Wuala network.
Finally, we could implement server maintenance. Some of our servers could download files and reupload them to Wuala nodes from time to time. They already maintain the backups on our servers (because of hardware failures, etc. it could happen that some fragements get corrupted..), the next step would be to upload fragments to nodes.

Inappropriate?GREAT Idea Roger! (I already suggested that btw. :-P)
What about anonymous maintenance? Any news on that?
The server would only need to maintain files that are not maintained anywhere in the P2P cloud because the cloud then would spread the files as well, so you could save quite some bandwith and still ensure even better reliability + speed! -
Inappropriate?OK, so: if there's a backup on your servers, how is there a distributed storage grid?
Surely if there has to be a backup then don't you need to have as much capacity centrally as the whole grid - if you did that, then you'd run into all kinds of problems around storage and bandwidth to allow people to store and retrieve their data.
When I read 'grid' I presumed something like bittorrent, how pieces of files are distributed across multiple hosts and compiled on retrieval. Am I wrong?
I’m slightly concerned

Inappropriate? There are backup servers AND there is a storage grid. Files are uploaded to our servers and to participating Wuala clients (nodes) to reduce traffic on our servers.
Yes, we have to backup the grid, but backup space is very cheap. Traffic is expensive but this can be reduced by the distributed storage grid.
