Why has the minimum upload speed been set to 10 KB?
Like the title says.

Inappropriate?Hi Per. Your are using an online storage service with p2p-support.
If you do not share space, the minimum upload traffic should not harm you. If you ́re uploading some files, I think you ́ll want a minimum speed to do this and 10kb/s should be possible for everyone. Also, for Wuala is a p2p-based service, you will need a minimum of upload to get a propper download, because the system must send control packages in time.
At least, if you are sharing space, a minimum speed is required because the fragments you are storing should be send back in a minimum speed. Otherwise, your fragments are not usable for the system.
If you cannot allow such a high traffic, you can activate the compatibility mode. You will not be able to decrease the limit, but wuala will not use it except during downloads (and maybe some peeks when you send comment or such things). -
Inappropriate?Makes sense. I usually set it to 1 when downloading something else, it's especially useful for torrents, but fair is fair.

Inappropriate?just turn off the trading or stop wuala if you need all your upload otherwise. This will help too ;)
(just nounced to get an lucky smiley on that thread ;) )

Inappropriate?this is bad. i have just recently discovered this stuff with minimum 10kbytes. i have two wuala nodes at some smaller "broadband" line which has only dual-isdn b channels (64kbit times two) in each direction. so two times 10kbytes is too much for such a line. this is sad,
why isnt this noted publicly anywhere in the releasenotes?
wuala is slowly but constantly moving towards the usual corporate evildoer companies. they used to be much more userfriendly and much more upfront and forthcoming in the past.
ever since caleido got bought out by the lacie folks they are even faster heading down this road.
I’m frustrated

Inappropriate? The reason i don't just close Wuala is for the online time. I actually use all of the ~90 GB i have worked up over the months, and i could still use more room so shutting it down is not really an option for me.

Inappropriate? Please note that the 10kB/s minimum was always there. All we changed is how this is shown in the settings. Previously, you could set the rate to 5kB/s in the settings. However, Wuala has always ignored settings below 10kB/s. All the new update did is making this limit more obvious, but it has been there since the early alpha.

then better ad a focus/change event to that edit box in that form, that when a user enters anything and leaves that inputbox the form autochecks the numbers and sets 10kbytes and actually displays this when the on-click/on-leave/on-change event occurs in that dialog box. still i am wondering why the current build of wuala performs badly on my limited internet connection with multiple nodes on my lan. maybe its also time for this idea of creating lan-to-lan awareness of wuala nodes participating on a single lan or internal networks, so that multiple wuala nodes would use the bandwidth more efficiently and also exchange chunks over the fast lan instead of acting all for themselves independently. this would also allow for a business use of wuala on corporate lans if one could define certain rules for master-wuala-nodes on the lans, which would be used by other wuala client nodes preferably over the direct internet connection for each and every client independently. thanks for explanation. -
@nickname: actually the lan awareness is something that has been on my mind for quite a while now. With some luck, we'll do something in that direction near the end of the year. -
Say what again? So when i set it to 1 KB, and it showed 0-1 KB in the little status window, it was lying? -
No, but it would go up to ten, no matter if it was set at 1 or 7... -
So it was not lying but it was lying?
Okay, here is what used to happen.
I set the max upload speed to 1 KB.
The little status box at the bottom of Wuala showed 0 or occasionally 1 KB. Never more than that.
What was the actual speed? -
The displayed speed is/was correct -
Inappropriate?it is probably really only using as much bandiwdth at every time as the statusbar of the wuala gui window displays, but the lowest limit you can set for bulk transfer, for uploads and maximum wuala network usage is these 10kbytes/sec. thats the lowest maximum
