wuala as a portable app; hundreds of gigs in a usbstick
could one install wuala as a portable application (http:www.portableapps.com\) so you increase the size of a usb device with the harddisk at home, even when your computer is not online on that time?
maybe it is already possible as is, i don't know what system recourses are required exactly, or what the portableapps system has to offer.
especially for the computer at work, school or the internet cafe where installing things locally is not an option.
I'm sure this step would be obsolete when the online version is finished.
anyway its an idea.

Inappropriate?simply copy your caleido\wuala directory to your usb stick or any other rewriteable storage-media and you are done...
wuala only relies on an installed java virtual machine and thats all. you can simply startup wuala from any kind of device as long as wuala can store its datafiles, configfiles and so on on the give path locations. -
Inappropriate? In my opinion the problem is not that you have to install wuala wherever you go, but to get the port forwarding to work correctly, and have access to actually save stuff on the guest system.
Sometime, when the team manages to get a web enabled version up and running the dream of having a lot of online space accessible wherever you have a browser and internet might become a reality. -
Inappropriate?I tried to copy it on my stick and it works at my home computer.
but not on the computers at school, but that probably has to do with the tight security there.

Inappropriate?net network issues are tightly connected to network design, network security, firewalls, routers, routing, addresses and so on....
applications will never run anywhere on any network for sure. you have to adjust the network or punch holes into the network to be able to connect to the outside world....
in the past, the skype application has been known to "punch holes" into almost any kind of network and find its way through all kinds of network setups to connect to the external skype servers and skype nodes...
but this was the main criticism of the skype application that networking administrators and companies were pretty much unable to control the skype network flow and networking access means...
you have to consider the risks before you ask for such features. where wuala is a legit application networking people will help the applications to work properly. where wuala isnt allowed or is banned, wuala should misbehave and try to find its own way through all the network protection means.
just my opinion. -
Inappropriate?Bad things happen if you just copy your folder onto a thumbdrive becuase every install has a unique ID. Make sure to delete the data folder!
Else, i've done it for you

I'm researching how to make it work with a java install on the tumbdrive -
