How does the XBox 360 function as a general digital media device?
I've heard the XBox mentioned in the same breath as the AppleTV, EyeTV/Mac Mini and TiVo. What features does it specifically have that put it in that league?

Inappropriate?Check out http://www.xbox.com/en-US/hardware/be...
Looks like you can rip CDs to your xbox's hard drive. You can use the Live service to download movies and tv shows (like iTunes). You can buy an add-on HD-DVD drive for your xbox to play HD-DVD discs on it (and there's also some rebate on amazon right now if you buy it -- like 10 HD-DVDs for free).
I think the real capabilities show up when you pair your xbox to Vista (assuming you have the Media Center version) and your computer has a tuner card in it. Then, you're watching all of your TV via your computer and xbox, etc.
If you can't tell, I haven't set all of this up myself, but I hope that helps for a start.

Inappropriate?not only vista but XP MCE also :) set media sharing and whatever you share just pass it through an xbox 360 encoder because microsoft doesnt support all codecs and extensions. but most picture formats:)

Inappropriate?Knowing that you are a Mac user Thor, you can use Connect360 (http://www.nullriver.com/index/produc...) to hook you iTunes library and movies up to your 360.
It works great.
