I desactivated my yahoo account, and still my sister was able to send message to that account, without getting any message that account is invalid. How was it possible? I'm affraid other friends will send messages to the old adress , not knowing that I can't get it!!

Inappropriate?When you deactivate an account, it's gone completely. Because there's no longer an account, when an email is sent it will not send back a response that your email address has changed.
Your sister should have gotten a response from her own mail client that said the email had 'bounced'.
