Inappropriate?Synthasite allows you to create a private website, or make part of your site private by password protecting certain pages on your site.
What this feature allows you to do:
1. Assign a single log in ID (username) and password to your site.
2. Choose whether you want to lock (password protect) all the pages on your site.
3. You can then share the log in ID and password with people you want to give access to the protected pages.
4. When they access those pages they will be asked to type in the log in ID and password before being given access.
What this feature does not do:
1. Allow people to register for a username and password on your site. This is a registration feature which we hope to release in future.
How to use the Password Protection feature:
1. Click on the Site Manager tab
2. Click on "Site Password Protection" underneath the list of pages of your site
3. Add a login and password and tick the pages you would like to protect
4. You can easily protect all your pages by clicking on "Lock All" or take off the password protection by clicking on "Unlock All"
5. When you create a new page, you will see a check box in the new site dialog that gives you an option to protect (lock) the new page.
6. Preview your protected page to see what the log in form will look like and to test your log in and password
7. To make the change effective on your live site, click on the yellow 'Update my Site' button

Inappropriate?Thank you so much for creating the password feature so quickly. I have created a wedding website for a friend whose Dad was really worried about gatecrashers. He no longer needs to worry because now only bona fida guests can view the site. Thank you so much all of Synthasite for a fantastic free website builder. It is so much easier than using Dreamweaver. Brilliant, thanks again.

I expect the passwording had already been implemented for a few hours previously but thankyou all the same! This is just what I need! I can't wait for the fully fledged registration feature!

can you put the user and pass for a certain page how do you do that please answer back!

Yes you can:
Click on the Site Manager Tab. Click on Password Protection. Type in the Log in ID and Password you want people to use. You will see a list of the pages on your site. Check the box next to the page or pages you want to password protect and click "ok" -

Hi expat,
At this stage it is not possible to give everyone a different password. Here is a possible way around it, though I admit that it is not ideal.
Although SynthaSite does not have a registration feature yet, here is a workaround you might like to try:
1) Password protect the pages on your site you want people to sign up in order to view.
2) Place a Wufoo or Form Assembly form on your sign up page to collect the details you want from your visitors.
3) You can either add the log in ID and password to the "thank you" message when someone fills in your form, or you can email them the information once you approve their membership.
This approach does not provide you with absolute security as there is a single log in and password for every person. However, it does allow you to collect information on your website visitors such as names, email addresses etc, should you wish to do so. You will have a database on the people who have registered for your site in your Wufoo or Form Assembly account. -

Yes they can. As long as you have shared the login ID and password with them, they will be able to log in at any time.

Inappropriate?Something I would find really usefull would be the facility to assign different passwords to different pages so that Visitor A can open the home page and say pages 2, 3 and 4 and Visitor B can open the home page and say pages 5, 6 and 7, etc. Is this something you could consider doing?

I'm sorry you are having problems.
To check what Log in ID and Password you assigned to your website:
1) Log in to your SynthaSite account and open your site
2) Click on the "Site Manager" tab
3) Click on "Site Password Protection"
4) A dialog box will open up and you will be able to see what Log in ID and password you assigned to your site. You can also change it if you wish. If you make any changes to the Log in ID and password, remember to update you live site to make this change effective on the live version of your site.
