could not contact server
I just installed Yuuguu, and it keeps saying could not contact server to create account. I've been retrying for some time now, and it's not connecting. My firewall isn't popping up and i've even tried disabling it and it still doesn't go through. Not sure what the issue is. Please help.

Inappropriate?I can confirm that the service is working and I've just signed up a new user to make sure sign up is working.
Can you let us know whether you are on Windows, Mac or Linux and if you are behind a proxy?
The company says

Inappropriate?I am using Vista, and i don't think i'm behind a proxy. Pretty much the rest of my sotware runs well, messengers, utorrent, etc with no connection issues. This is the first time i'm having this problem. The windows firewall didn't popup, and i don't see the program on the list for me to add it to the exceptions list. I just checked this morning and got the same error again.
I’m frustrated

Inappropriate?Yuuguu uses the same secure connection that https does. Please could you see if you can access https webpages and let us know.
Here are the first couple of example https webpages that google has found me:
* https://msp.f-secure.com/web-test/
* https://www.grc.com/x/ne.dll?bh0bkyd2 -
Inappropriate?Yes i was able to connect to both of the pages.
-
Inappropriate? Please could you try uninstalling Yuuguu and downloading it again from http://www.yuuguu.com and installing fresh.
I know it is the standard support response, but I want to check all the basics first.
If this doesn't work let me know and I'll post how to turn logging on so that we can get some more information on the problem.
Thanks again -
Inappropriate?Same problem for me!
I am using Mac OS X 10.5.4.
I was able to connect to both of the pages above.
Can you please try to solve the issue?
Thanks

Inappropriate? Please could you let me know if you are behind a proxy or on a corporate network?
-
Inappropriate?No proxy :(
-
Inappropriate?Could you try enabling logging, recreating the problem and either posting the contents of yuuguu.log here or emailing it to jk@yuuguu.com .
To enable logging on Windows:
1) Edit (Yuuguu-installation-directory)\config\yuuguu.properties to include the line:
yuuguu.logging.level=ALL
2) Save the file.
3) Quit Yuuguu (right-clicking on our sys-tray icon will display a "Quit" option).
4) Restart Yuuguu.
5) The log file (Yuuguu-installation-directory)\yuuguu.log should be produced.
To enable logging on Mac:
1) Right click on the Yuuguu application icon and select "Show Package Contents".
2) Edit Contents/Resources/config/yuuguu.properties to include the line:
yuuguu.logging.level=ALL
3) Save the file.
4) Quit Yuuguu.
5) Restart Yuuguu.
6) The log file Contents/Resources/yuuguu.log should be produced.
Thanks very much. -
Inappropriate?Ok i was able to get registered. I uninstalled, restarted, installed tried to register, wouldn't work, then restarted, and then was able to get registered. Now my only issue is that it just sits here connecting all day. It doesn't actually log in, just says connecting. Been like that for over a half hour now. And i've tried shutting it down and restarting as well.
I’m frustrated
-
Inappropriate?Check if your using a script blocker, I was in firefox. If so allow yuuguu and getsatisfaction. After doing that I was able to connect. It may have been fixed some other way and my solution was a coincidence, but it did seem to work.
-
Inappropriate?Franklin, thanks for the update, if you would like me to look into your connection problem please follow the instructions above on enabling logging and either post the yuuguu.log file here or send it to me at jk@yuuguu.com
-
you are amazingly unhelpful to people dude. -
Inappropriate?Ok no problem, can you tell me where the installation folder should be to be. I'm looking in program files, and there is no yuuguu directory in it. When i check the shortcut it goes to some app data under user and i don't see the appdata folder under my user.
I’m confused
-
Inappropriate?Figured it out. Hidden folders were done differently in xp than this vista. I sent you my log file via e-mail.
-
Inappropriate?Franklin,
Thanks for the log file and for spending time helping us sort out this issue.
You said before that you didn’t think you were behind a proxy, but it looks like Yuuguu is picking up proxy settings from your system and is trying to use them.
Picked up HTTP proxy settings 127.0.0.1:5400
Could you check your proxy setting for me please?
To see your proxy settings on Windows XP:
1) Click “Start” -> Settings -> Control Panel -> Internet Options.
2) Select the “Connections” tab in Internet Properties.
3) Click on the “LAN settings” button.
4) See what the “Proxy server” section is displaying.
Cheers
John

Thank you very much for your help. This solved the problem. -
Inappropriate?Hi John,
I've got the same error on Mac OS X 10.5.5
I've followed the log procedure (it seems to be Contents/Resources/Java/config) and this is the log:

Inappropriate?Could you let us know what version of java is installed on your machine? The command "java -version" will show this.
Thanks -
Inappropriate?It is:
$ java -version
java version "1.5.0_16"
Java(TM) 2 Runtime Environment, Standard Edition (build 1.5.0_16-b06-284)
Java HotSpot(TM) Client VM (build 1.5.0_16-133, mixed mode, sharing) -
Inappropriate? Thanks for the reply. Everything looks fine. I'll try and recreate the problem and get back to you. In the meantime could you try restarting your computer, downloading Yuuguu fresh and trying again, just in case.
-
Inappropriate?I've not been able to recreate the problem with that version of java and Windows XP. I haven't got a 10.5 machine to hand until tomorrow. Could you send the email address that you signed up with to jk@yuuguu.com so that I can see how far the sign up process got? Thanks again.
-
Inappropriate?Sven,
Thanks for sending me your email address. There is no record of you signing up so the sign up process didn't work at all for you. Can we check a few more things:
1) is logging level set to ALL.
2) an Intel Mac or a PPC Mac.
3) what is the version, it should be build 1909.
Thanks -

Inappropriate? We are having problems with our connectivity to the internet. Hopefully this should be fixed soon. We can only give our apologies until the Yuuguu service is resumed.
-
Inappropriate? Thanks for the understanding, I'll update you as soon as we having connectivity again.
-
Inappropriate? The network problem has been resolved. Yuuguu is available again. Sorry for any inconvenience.
-
Inappropriate? We're an IT company and we're evaluating corporate teamwork applications and tried Yuuguu - it looked promising, but it failed right at the startup as we couldn't create accounts. Our guess is that the product does not handle the company proxy+firewall (only port 80 and https is allowed and the HTTP proxy has password auth!).
Just for the record: PC is WinXP Pro SP2 ENG, Java SE Development Kit (JDK) 6 Update 11 (with separate JRE installed and activated in the browsers), installed latest Yuuguu from your homepage, IE proxy settings have been set (http+https sites work in IE), Java proxy settings have been set to autodetect, but tried manual as well.
Symptom: after all details have been given to the new user creation, the HTTP proxy user/pass request dialog does not appear; an error message is shown in a modal dialog ("Could not contact server to create your account").
Please note that we've uninstalled Yuuguu and moved on to try other products so we won't be able to provide more data about the issue - but I guess the problem is clear, the product does not support HTTP proxy with user/pass auth. Please at least mention this limitation at the system requirements. If there's a fix in the near future, we're highly interested in it - so in this case, if you can, please be so kind as to mail me about it at borg aat infor doot hu. Thank you.
Best regards,
Gergely BOR
Corvex Zrt.
PS. it was a major annoyance to learn that the forum needs registration AFTER I tried to submit the post.
I’m sad
-
Thanks for commenting. Supporting proxies with username and password authentication is on the wishlist but hasn't bubbled to the top yet. Your comment will add weight to the argument for doing this functionality. Please watch this space. -
Inappropriate?I'm getting the same error. I'm behind a proxy but I tried disabling the proxy as well as adding yuuguu.com as an exception. Nothing worked.
-
The Yuuguu service had a connection issue just a minute ago. All is back to normal now. If you still have problems let us know. -
Inappropriate?Yep. Working now. Thanks!
-
Inappropriate?Hi There,
Had similar problems with Yuuguu and Windows XP Professional on Laptop
Yuuguu worked on company network but failed to connect at home.
Our IT group uses automatic configuration script in Internet Explorer LAN connection settings to detect different networks and proxy server settings.
Yuuguu only looks at the use proxy option in IE LAN connection settings
Problem is solved by unclicking use Proxy in Internet Explorer when working at home.
Yuuguu should however use the settings of the automatic configuration script.
To end with a positive remark: The screen share function of Yuuguu is working great!
I’m happy
-
Thanks for that. I'll look into it and hopefully we can use the configuration script. Regards, Phill. -
Inappropriate?Hi
I'm facing a similar problem, I'm getting the same message i.e. Could not connect to server.
My browsers are working perfectly under http and https protocols.
I am behind a proxy as well and i have set it in my system.
I'm using an hp laptop with OpenSuse 10.3 installed
Following is the message i receive from the logs

Thanks for your logfile. Our servers have had no downtime so it looks like there is a problem connecting via your proxy. Is the error you are getting the "constant connecting" animated logo in the main Yuuguu window or is it a separate error in the middle of the screen?
From the logfile, it looks like it hasn't run long enough to generate a full error trace. There is no report in the logfile of it failing to connect to our server (although it probably will do / has) .... can you leave it running for a couple of minutes and mail the log file to support@yuuguu.com and we'll take a further look at it.
Regards, Apologies & Thanks for your help in trying to get to the bottom of this, Phill. -
Inappropriate?It says
java.net.UnknownHostException: xmpp3.yuuguu.com
The error appears on a separate window.
I've tried connecting it at home where i had no proxy server and it worked perfectly. However, in the office environment we have a proxy with no user authentication... but it keeps saying that "Could not connect to server"
I tried checking the site xmpp3.yuuguu.com .. it does not exist as well.
I am a java software engineer as well, so i can help u in whatever debugs u need :)
I just need to get this done ASAP so that i can give richer support to my clients :) -
Sorry, just trying to chase up some more information from one of my colleagues. It looks like Yuuguu is having trouble negotiating with your proxy .... -
Inappropriate?do you require any details from my system? On the same network with a Windows OS it works perfectly.
On my Suse OS i am able to browse through the proxy settings. Then why doesn't yuuguu get through the proxy ? On suse, where does it get the proxy or internet connections ?
What can i do to help?
