skype plugin
It would be helpful to have plug-ins to skype. Google talk's audio chat doesn't work on mac. By using skype which works on mac, pc and linux you can use it to initiate the screen share as well as audio conference.

Inappropriate?Hi, yeah a skype plugin has been mentioned many times within Yuuguu and may be worth looking at as we would like to help out skype users with screen sharing that works well and compliments each other.
I’m thankful
-
Inappropriate?Good news is yuuguu has released skype integration.
Bad news is it is only for Windows and Mac, breaking the platform coverage yuuguu used to have.
I recommend yuuguu to everyone simply because of its full-featured coverage of all platforms. All the other features many other products have, but platform coverage was best at yuuguu. Looks like that is changing :-(
I’m disappointed

Aaron,
We are working towards adding Linux support for Skype. We wanted to get Skype integration out as soon as possible which unfortunately meant sacrificing Linux support in the initial release.
We are not abandoning Linux support and value the Linux/OSS community.

Thanks Michael, glad to hear it might not be the bad omen it appeared to be. -
Inappropriate?I disagree that other products have the same features, unless you only want to use it for basics like chat - on its own - or screen share - on its own.
Yuuguu really comes into its own for remote team working, where the fact you have presence, IM, low-cost group telephony, VOIP, screen share to groups even across networks, remote control to groups even across networks makes a big difference. The quick chat, one click share/skype, add to groups, browser based viewing, price are all there. It is easy to install - if you need an install, that is. It is very easy to use The GTalk/MSN/AIM(etc) integration is as easy as it gets. Ditto skype integration which is really easy: click a check box, press finish.
It is the *confluence* of these things that is unique to Yuuguu, which we designed from the ground up to help us design it from the ground up.
Anyways, hopefully we'll sort the Linux catch-up out soon. Sorry about the disappointment with this release. We just felt that once we had Windows and Mac implementations done, we wanted to get it out there ASAP for those large groups of users.
There is definitely no letting off Linux support at Yuuguu. -
Thanks Al, certainly different people value different combinations of features. For me, the yuuguu feature that differentiates yuuguu from other products is the consistent feature set across a wide range of platforms.
Without that I have to use different products with different people and group sessions are painful or impossible. Windows 32 bit, Windows 64 bit, MacOS, Linux 32 bit, Linux 64 bit. All are popular enough these days that any group session will involve users on multiple platforms. If some members of the group can't join in, or are missing a feature everyone else has, then that's a problem. Yuuguu doesn't have that problem - which is why I always feel safe recommending it. And why I am sensitive to the Skype feature now lacking on Linux; Though hopefully just temporarily as you say! -
Inappropriate?I see your point, aaron. You are quite right.
From my own - surprisingly limited - perspective, I use Yuuguu day in, day out for remote teamwork, so I tend to view things through that particular lens. We also have a mix of platforms at Yuuguu. One of our company strengths is that we don't internally mandate which computer system 'You Must Use (tm)' and in that respect we mirror the wider world. I think we escape your problem simply by the fact that our Linux developers are also happy enough to boot up in windows from time to time.
Admittedly, we then need to give them ten minutes break to calm down and stop the shivering ...
But perhaps the most reassuring part for you is simply that we do have guys who - given the choice - will fire up a laptop with Linux anyday over the other systems. And some die hard Mac fans: Mac ownership seems quite infectious, people get a Macbook then start raving to me about how I should.
And, of course, die-hard old-timer sticks in the technical mud: yours truly, writing from Windows XP. Which I must confess, I still like. And as I often say "Variety is for people who don't know what they like"
Was that a dinosaur I just saw walk past me? ;-)
