Stuck on "Connecting, please wait"

YuuGuu Windows client doesn't get past "Connecting, please wait" after logging in. I'm using a corporate network, so there may be firewall issues - but you say you just need an SSL connection on port 443 which shouldn't be an issue. Are there any other connection requirements?

    Hi,

    Can you try again as we did have an internal problem at that time and it has now been fixed.

    I have installed the .deb package for Ubuntu and like Russell, can't get past the connecting part. I am not using proxies, nor do I have firewall rules in place. It may be because I have partially upgraded to 8.10 (Intrepid)?

    - Forgot to mention that I'm behind a wireless router. Any specific NAT that I need to set up?

    Yeah - I'm in the same, though with Hardy Heron 8.04 I've tried it on two networks and neither worked (both are served by comcast, though).

    On the same networks I tried it on a Mac and it worked fine. So, I don't believe this is a proxy/firewall issue on the network itself. I don't have any specific configurations of my network nor firewall on my local ubuntu system aside from using OpenDNS as the DNS provider.

    So...I really want this to work. It seems like a great service - any other tips?

    I'm not too sure what is wrong with your Yuuguu installs. I've checked Yuuguu on Ubuntu 8.04, 8.10 and Debian 4 as a couple of people have reported this but all seem to work fine.

    Can you send me the output of the following commands please?

    update-alternatives --list java
    dpkg -l yuuguu

    I originally installed it when java-gcj 1.5 was my alternative. After installing and realizing that it needs the Sun 1.6 I had to do

    sudo update-java-alternatives -s java-6-sun

    Which seems to have changed the default java version (as java -version above shows).

    One other point - just now I entered an incorrect password and received the message "Invalid email address or password. "Sign up" if you don't have a login and password."

    So, it is able to make that communication properly. But then when I do my password recovery and enter the new password it just hangs at "Connecting, please wait."

    I also confirm Greg's findings, that if I put in an incorrect password I get the pop up message. So that means it does get to make a connection to your servers.

    In my prior post, I neglected to add a few more pointers:

    - yuuguu was successfully installed as a deb package on my Ubuntu 8.04 system. It worked great, and I've had it installed on my Mac and Windows systesm--which all work fine. I've also been having friends install it.
    - my primary work system is my Ubuntu 8.04 system, and it has now stopped working. I tried an earlier kernel, but to no avail. Some other upgrade has affected it.
    - any thought about putting yuuguu into a ppa repository ?

    I have the same problem with my Ubuntu 8.04 system. It worked fine until two days ago when I get stuck in the 'Connecting Please Wait' loop. I've been in contact with Neil Kay-Jones about this issue and he suggeste I post here to see if I can get some help. It appears that I'm logged in and can share someone elses screen, but I can not share my own as I only have the login screen with the 'Connecting Please Wait' on it.

    OK it seems that everyone is using the same official Sun Java 6 version that we have on our test machines. The next step would be to enable logging and get you to try logging on again.

    Can you run the following commands:


    mkdir -p ~/.yuuguu/config
    echo "yuuguu.logging.level=ALL" > ~/.yuuguu/config/yuuguu.properties


    The start Yuuguu and try to log in. This should create a file called ~/.yuuguu/yuuguu.log. If you could email this to support@yuuguu.com and we'll take a look at it to see if there are any errors.

    Thanks for all the replies - they allowed me to find the issue and also showed why we didn't notice it during testing.

    The problem was caused by some changes to the system tray integration (which only works on KDE and Gnome) where I had missed an error case. As this only affected window managers like Enlightenment (which we don't officially support) it got missed during testing.

    I've fixed the issue and it will be in the next release of Yuuguu (which should be the first week of November). If you need a patched version before then please send an email to support@yuuguu.com and we'll send you details.

    Apologies to people affected by this.

    I don't use enlightenment so that resolution seemed odd to me. So, I decided to run the steps you mentioned in your request about the config file and...somehow...the same package I've been using all along started working.

    I got a little icon in the system tray (never happened before) and my login went through just fine.

    If you want to see the log file from this successful startup I can send it along.

    i disabled my compiz desktop effects and now i am able to login. the tray icon would not load until i disabled the desktop effects.

    OK, I can verify that turning OFF the compiz fixes the problem. I suggest that users consider install "fusion-icon" to give a panel applet that is placed on the bar. making it much easier to switch back and forth.

    Jack and Yaseen - The issue that you've encountered is a known bug in Java (details http://bugs.sun.com/bugdatabase/view_...).

    Sun have fixed this in Java 1.6 update 10. If you are running Ubuntu Java 1.6u10 is going to be included in 8.10 (Intrepid) which is out at the end of the month. I have requested that the Ubuntu devs backport this to 8.04 but there is no guarantee.

    I just installed the latest build, but I'm also running into this problem. I'm using Mac OS 10.5.5, no proxy or firewall.

    I'm hoping to be able to use Yuuguu again soon!

    I think you mean Java 1.6.0U10. I don't think 1.6.1 is out yet. I tried installing that Java update and turning off compiz, (which gave me the tray icon) but it still gets stuck on "Connecting, please wait...". An incorrect password doesn't connect as others reported, so perhaps it's network related. I'm running Intrepid 8.1. I'm not using a firewall and have no issues with Skype or other similar apps.

    I tried to login using my email ogheri@alessandroogheri.com and my password, but it says SNAPS .... and so on and so on.
    When I tried to click on the "forgot your password" hint, which asks for your Email ONLY, it says that there was no user registered with this email .?

    Running Windows XP/Vista We are consistently having problems with getting stuck in the "connecting..." state which is very frustrating. Often the first time we screen share everything works fine. Then if the connection drops/hangs and/or we end sharing and try to start sharing again there is a strong possibility that we will be stuck in the "connecting..." state. Once this occurs then it seems that all further attempts at connecting ( at least for that day ) will get stuck also.

    When YuuGuu works its fantastic - but this failure to connect is a serious problem.

    Sorry to hear you are having problems. If you could send us (support@yuuguu.com) the log files we'll have a look into it. If you bring up the About dialog (right-click on yuuguu icon in systray and select About) there is instructions on creating log files.

    Thanks for sending us your log file. Unfortunately it doesn't contain enough information for us to understand what the problem is. If you have time please could you try these next steps to help us get to the bottom of the problem:

    1) Uninstall Yuuguu and delete the ~/.yuuguu directory
    2) Install Yuuguu again from a refresh download from www.yuuguu.com
    3) Run Yuuguu but before you try and login, right click on the Yuuguu system tray icon and select "About". In the about dialog please "Turn Diagnostics On" and select "Full Diagnostics".
    4) Try and login.
    5) If it fails please send us the yuuguu.log.

    Also could you send the following information to us:

    1) Your linux flavour. "cat /etc/*release" will give you this.
    2) What desktop environment (Gnome/KDE/etc).

    If you do get a failure again please could you see if either of the following command lines work instead.

    bash -x /usr/bin/yuuguu

    /usr/bin/java -Xmx512M -Dyuuguu.install.dir=/usr/lib/yuuguu -jar /usr/lib/yuuguu/YuuguuLauncher.jar

    If you still have a failure then we suggest you a full system update then try reinstalling Yuuguu.

    I hope this works for you. Let us know how you get on.

    logfile sent to support. none of the above works, and I moved away from Micro$oft to avoid things like full system reinstalls to fix problems. So...if a full system reinstall is what's needed, then sorry, but I'll go elsewhere...

    Thanks for that. Can we try a few more tests on your connection?

    1) Can you try and login to your Account on www.yuuguu.com from the same machine and let us know if you can or not.

    2) See if you have any local firewall settings on the machine. The command to show this is "sudo /sbin/iptables -L"

    3) Try making a connection to Yuuguu with telnet. On the command line enter "telnet xmpp.yuuguu.com 443". After a few seconds it will either being still saying connecting or you will be connected and have a blank screen. Let us know which please. If you are connected then Ctrl+] then typing quit will quit. If you are not connected Ctrl+C should quit telnet.

    Please either post the results here or send them to me ( jk@yuuguu.com ).

    1. login from the website works fine
    2. there are no local firewall settings and telnet works fine - please note the ******** references below are just masking my username/hostname

    Hi skipow, could you send me ( jk@yuuguu.com ) a traceroute to xmpp.yuuguu.com from your Linux machine. If you have time it would also be great if you could run the Windows VM that you say connects correctly and get a traceroute (tracert) from Windows too. Thanks again.

    I have the same problem as the title - I have uninstalled Yuuguu and reinstalled, have also updated Java. Am using Vista btw. It seems to install ok but when I enter email and password, it sticks on Connecting Please Wait. I have turned on full diagnostics - how can I send you this log as suggested in John Kleiser's email one month ago? First time user here so may need a little more help than others in some areas - would greatly appreciate your help as I need this for work.

    To send the log file, if you right-click on the red "Y" yuuguu logo in the system tray and choose "About Yuuguu" the dialog box will pop up - there should now also be a "Save Log File" button. If you click that, it will open a Save File dialog which will save the log file into your Documents folder. The log file is zipped up, but is simply a text file in there if you want to take a look at what you are sending us - we're not hiding anything!

    If you the send that file to jk@yuuguu.com we can take a look at it and get back to you as soon as possible.

    I've been having this same issue on my Mac the last few weeks. I did upgrade to Snow Leopard and that may or may not be affecting it, but I cannot connect anymore and when I launch I just see the "Connecting, please wait" message and it never connects. I did redownload the most recent version of Yuuguu to make sure that wasn't the issue. This has been a wonderful program, if there is a fix, let me know! Thanks!

    Yuuguu for me works fine on Windows OS and it only works fine on my Open Suse 10.3 when it doesn't have any proxy. At home, where i do not have a proxy I'v managed to create my account successfully using my OpenSuse 10.3 OS.

    Previously, when I was in the office environment, we had a proxy server to connect to and this given me problems while creating my account stating that "Could not contact server to create your account".

    Now, again in the office environment, when I'm trying to login i get stuck on the login screen. It seems like its trying to connect continuously but not getting any connection.

    I cannot ping xmpp2.yuuguu.com from my linux terminal as well.

    Please find the log files below and tell me what details you require from my end.

    Note that I use OpenSuse 10.3, hp laptop and i'm connected through a proxy server which does not have any user authentication. I'm using java version 1.6.0_03

    I need your help on urgent basis to support my banking clients.
