Inappropriate?Unfortunately there isn't an official Linux version of Yuuguu yet. We'e are hoping to release a version in the future for Ubuntu Linux once we sort out the packaging and some of the platform specific issues.
Until there is an official Linux release you can download the Mac OS version and run the the YuuguuLauncher.jar inside. This should generally work although there will be some missing features and things are not guaranteed to work.
I’m feeling the Linux vibes

Inappropriate?Hi, thanks for the quick answer, I'll try the Mac Version and see how it works in Linux, although i'm expecting ansious the Linux Version of this great program.
Thanks
I’m happy to hear this

Inappropriate?Good news but do you know what time scale you are working on for a Linux release?

Can one of these versions be used with Ubuntu Linux? I have an Eee PC running this version, and won't be surprised if Yuuguu cannot run on this netbook, but if so, I'd like to try it out. The download page refers me here for information on other Linux versions. Am I just too early to see some information on other versions? -
Yes, look into the download page, I downloaded GNU/Linux Ubuntu version and it works fine!, there are versions for Open Suse and Fedora too.
I insist, GOOD JOB GUYS ON YUUGUU!!! -
Because of the massive variety of Linux distributions, we can't possibly test or support them all. However, in addition to Ubuntu 8.04, Fedora 9 and SLED 10, we've had reports that Yuuguu works on the following:
Ubuntu 7.04
Ubuntu 8.10
Debian Etch
Scientific Linux
If anybody has any more successes, let me know. Thanks! -
Details of how to get Yuuguu working on PCLinuxOS can be found here. -
Inappropriate?Thank you so much for the information. I'm glad you develop linux version.... Yuuguu gonna be a great tool for remote administration on all platforms.
Congratulation for the effort!!!!
I’m Very Happy & Downloading!

Inappropriate? Is there anyway to install it on a Debian box??. I just found out about yuuguu and it's great. Hopefully I'd have it installed soon
-
Have you tried Ubuntu version?? This can works on Debian -
Inappropriate? If anybody is having problems installing Yuuguu on Debian 'Etch' please follow the following steps:
-
Inappropriate?Mandriva anyone?
Open konsole
wget http://www.yuuguu.com/downloads/yuugu...
Open your Home folder using Konqueror, right click and choose 'Open with Software Installer' and choose 'Install'
Enter your root password
You'll see a message telling you that the package has a 'bad signature', this is because the package doesn't come via the normal mandriva software management channel and so has no signature, but it's safe to click 'Install'
That's it, yuuguu should now be up and running.
I've verified this works on 3 different Mandriva 2008 systems and it's gone smoothly each time.
These instructions are basically the same as Michael Stringer gave for PCLinuxOS in another thread but adapted for Mandriva
----------------------------------------------------------------
Aghhh, this board mangles the wget address, try again!
paste the following 2 lines together
wget http://www.yuuguu.com
/downloads/yuuguu-latest-i386.rpm
I’m a happy bunny I got it working but think this board is ***!?!**
-
galgo - Thanks for posting instructions for Mandriva (saves me downloading and installing another version of Linux!
And yes the Get Satisfaction board is a pain if you want to post technical stuff. -
Inappropriate?Christian, I'm glad your linux version works ok.
I am one of the thousands of Asus Eee pc users who bought the linux version but are nervous about installing stuff unless it says its specifically for the Xandros distro that Asus uses. Do you think it would work, and if so what are the download/install instructions?
Regards, Martyn -
Inappropriate?Martyn - I downloaded a trial of Xandros and tried to get Yuuguu working on it but the version of Java 6 (which Yuuguu depends on) they have appears to be broken.
Until Xandros ship a working version of Java 6 you won't be able to use Yuuguu on your Eee (unless you install a different version of Linux). -
Inappropriate?I have Java 6 on my Eee/Linux (Xandros) together with Eclipse and Netbeans and am developing Java 6 programs on it ok. What it the problem you are having with YuuGuu?
-
Inappropriate?Martyn - Can you tell me how you installed Java 6? If you installed it using a package from java.sun.com then Yuuguu won't install (it uses package dependencies that the installler from Sun doesn't supply).
-
Inappropriate?Yes, I installed Java 6 using the standard Sun installation kit. What are the additional packages that Yuuguu requires and can they not be installed as well, before attempting the Yuuguu installation?
-
Inappropriate?Unfortunately it isn't a case of additional packages. You need Xandros to repackage Java so that the dependency manager knows that it is installed.
We are planning to release a version for people who cannot install Yuuguu from packages that should work for you. -
Inappropriate?I've installed yuuguu on my Ubuntu 8.10 intrepid. Seem to work OK, but often when a nofification window is to be displayed (message etc), the computer freezes totally and I have to turn it off the hard way. I use dual monitor, and the notification seems to show up (only white, no text) uppermost in the middle the monitors, and I think there's a Java app showing in task panel.
Where can I start searching for solution?
-
Can you run: 'java -version' and post the output here please? -
Inappropriate?Hey
java -version:
java version "1.6.0_10"
Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment (build 1.6.0_10-b33)
Java HotSpot(TM) Server VM (build 11.0-b15, mixed mode)
uname -a:
Linux 2.6.27-7-generic #1 SMP Tue Nov 4 19:33:20 UTC 2008 i686 GNU/Linux
I have experienced some sound problems too. Might have something to do with it.
Dave -
Inappropriate?Dave,
I was talking to a colleague earlier about this and he suggested that this might be the issue as we have had a couple of sound issues in the past.
Can you try disabling sound in the Yuuguu preferences (right-click the tray and select Preferences or click on your name in the main window) and see if that resolves your problems? -
Inappropriate?Ok.
I've already done that, so I'll test it.
There's a few known issues in Ubuntu regarding ALSA and OSS. Other apps have problems with this to, but they don't crash the OS :-)
I'll post my results. -
Inappropriate? Finally something I can use for remote desktop (with encryption, that seems to traverse networks well, and is free) to support my Linux installs!!!!
Following the instructions here it installs perfect in my preferred distro PCLinuxOS with KDE 3.5 and the LXDE release (just add Java from the repos). Thank You very much. I do hope that it gets sped up a bit down the road, it is awfully laggy compared to my experiences with Logmein but it should work for my support needs none-the-less. Still looking for something as good as LMI for desktop access of unattended Linux systems however.....
I’m happy YuuGuu supports Linux!
