how to use the suggested links button in Blogger under Firefox
Hi,
So far I think this is awesome. But I'm not totally clear on how to use the "suggested links" button. Should I have the word highlighted in the blog text already? Suggested images works great, it puts an image at the top of the posting. I'd like to be able to have it be put where I want but that's easy to move.
What I'm doing now is following the link to a separate tab, then copying the link, then pasting it in. I use blogger and Firefox 2.0.x and my blog is http://nonnotablenatterings.blogspot....
If there is some helps, I missed it, I read the FAQ but it wasn't there. You may want to add a link on the site to where docs are :) So far I love this tool, it rocks so consider this a quibble!

It's now a confirmed bug in our scripts thanks to helpful bug reports. We're working on a fix.

Looks like a bug. I'll forward this to our engineers and hopefully they'll be able to come up with a more robust link handling routines for our further iteration.
Are you using anything else that might have modified Blogger (extension, greasemonkey, adblock, etc.?). Are you editing in Compose tab or in HTML (you can try switching tabs and then clicking the links).
Also, does the suggested link item itself get selected (turn orange), just that there is no hyperlink in the body? What you have to watch out is that the first instance of the word in the text is hyperlinked, so if you are writing a long text you have to scroll up to find the text.

It should just work without any special selection. You can try it on our demo, http://www.zemanta.com/demo/ to get a feeling for it.
But the way you describe it, it sounds like there is a problem in scripts. Did you try using it on Draft blogger?

You apply links to your text by clicking on our suggestions. If there are more, you'll see it in a drop-down and you can click on other options to make different links.
That's all it should take for you to make one of our suggestions a link for that word in your text. If this is not working for you, there might be some bug with our scripts. In this case I suggest you first retry on Blogger draft: http://draft.blogger.com and report if you also get the same problem there.

Inappropriate?I must be confused then, because when I click on a suggestion there is a drop down which shows a little symbol (the Wikipedia W for example) and a clickable link. I can follow the link to the WP entry or whatever but nothing is happening when I click on the drop down itself. Do I have to have the word highlighted as with regular Blogger linkification? Thanks for the prompt reply, this tool is really nifty.
I’m confused, apparently...

Inappropriate?Well.... again, it ABSOLUTELY may be a clue shortage at this end... but on draft, (this is for a post I plan to publish tomorrow, I am trying to see how long I can do a post every day... (grin) ) I had several links suggested, and when I clicked on the first one (after it was presented) it bluelinked the correct text. However none oft he REST of the links would get applied.
I tried Apply All as well.
I’m Happy at how responsive these guys are!

Inappropriate?I mostly edit in compose mode, but switch to HTML when I am tweaking things (like pictures, or lists or whatever)
The suggested link item turns orange, yes (should have mentioned that, sorry), but no hyperlink is added. I don't write so much that scrolling up is hard :) and first occurance of the text is what is desired anyway (per WP standards :) ) ... I do remember to check that.
I think I'm pretty bog standard, other than a few minor style sheet tweaks to my layout, I don't use any blogger extensions. I do have a fair number of other Firefox extensions (chatzllla, flashgot, febe being the biggies) and firefox's internal popup blocker on, though.
I’m still happy!

Inappropriate?I'm having lots of trouble using Zemanta with my blog (using Blogger) and my browser (using Firefox 2.0.0.13). I have disabled my adblock plus and the Firefox popup blocker. I do have greasemonkey installed, but no extensions related to blogger/blogspot. Sometimes I get some suggested links and photos, but most of the time I get the "Oooops, something went wrong" message. I was able to insert a couple links into my post, but then, like Lar, I could only view the suggested Wikipedia link, copy the URL and insert it into my post manually. This seems really buggy.
I’m frustrated.
-
Inappropriate?I don't get those messages about Ooops...
I have continued to play with this and it seems to work sporadically. when I first reported it I thought it was "always works for the first link added, never for subsequent ones" but more data suggests that it's just sporadic. Sometimes (rarely) the first link doesn't work. Sometimes (maybe 30-40% of the time) a subsequent one does.
Since I am clicking to get the URL anyway (by following in a new tab) I always try it, what the heck, if it works I don't have to follow the link to get the URL and hand paste it.
I’m Confused but still happy

Inappropriate?Seems to be working less and less as the day goes on. I tried uninstalling adblock plus entirely -- that didn't help. I've cleared my cache, restarted Firefox, reinstalled Zemanta -- nothing helps. Now, I'm not getting any suggested links, photos or tags, just the "ooops" message. I really liked it when it was (briefly) working, but now it's just utter frustration.

Inappropriate?M.J. and Lar, can you please drop me a mail to jure@zemanta.com with an example of text that is giving you a problem (in HTML format if possible).
While I right now have no idea what the issue is, we'll try to reproduce it and try to figure out what's happening.
I’m sad
