Problems with changes to postings html coding and zenmanta linking is too much
1.I have Zemanta installed and do not select the links after I've completed my document what does it do?
2. When I have selected the links and went into the HTML it was loaded with all kinds of linking and other junk so I had difficulty cleaning up the code. I'm wondering just what that will do with a large blogger site with a lot of entries.
3.If a user has to go back an edit their posting and it's loaded with all the HTML from Zemanta how can they sort through it to edit properly, especially when they are not very HTML literate.
4. I think some of the people that share pictures and other stuff demand to much with direct links from my pages and hyperlinks from pictures. The lnking and direct links that accompany pictures I consider almost invasive (like hyper-link spammers). Is there a way to inhibit that without modifiying the code?

Inappropriate?1. Nothing. You have to actively click on things to get them inserted into your blog.
2. We only add absolute minimum extra information to your HTML that we need to give a good experience over edits/saves. The extra class shouldn't be a problem. Which parts are bothering you the most? You can set "clean XHTML" in the preferences that will give you even less markup additions.
3. Optimally, non-HTML literal users shouldn't use HTML mode anyway. That's why we have WYSIWYG editors in blogging software. Why do you feel the need for users to edit HTML directly?
As far as platform integration goes, we integrate in a way that's native for that platform, e.g. on Wordpress we'd use their native image tags [wpcaption] I believe, to make sure that the whole image manipulation thing works correctly.
4. It's the community that's asking us to do that, not us. E.g. Flickr writes in their Community guidelines: "Do link back to Flickr when you post your Flickr content elsewhere." - http://www.flickr.com/guidelines.gne
There are similar issues with GFDL license of many Wikimedia Commons images.
How would you like us to link to your images from other blogs?

Inappropriate?I have enough problems when I allow HTML on my sites. Currently, I use Drupal inhibited HTML for authenticated/registered posters.
The WYSIWYG editors have their own problems. I won't even go there.
I careless about whether my images are linked back. When I put images on the web... to be honest I do it, knowing others will use them.
I have resorted to putting my site name on images in some cases if I'm concerned about their distrubution.
I think image providers should just put a link to their site within the image. That way viewers could enter the link in the address line with copy/paste and then viewers could go there.
Links from my sites and alt tagging inside my code is hyperlink spamming just disguised by your nice services. Sure Flickr and everyone wants link backs to their site... it's the Google SEO thing. Google used to be a competent search, now if you search for the model number of something or support you end up with page upon page of e-commerce sites trying to sell you something. Honestly, adsense and all their promotion for advertising has created a vacuum for a good search engine competitor.
I recently had a forums that had a simplified registration. My gosh I had over 2,000 postings with nothing buy hyperlinks to all manner of junk within a couple days. I didn't watch the site very close... and wham the spammers were all over the site. I put an ecaptha on the site, and reinstalled the forums. Made users mad as heck, but it would have taken the best part of two days to delete all the spambot users and postings.
So, is hyperlinking important. You bet it is, if you want to promote your sites.
Next thing... about hyperlinks - Do you have people running those links on content you provide to really determine their value, or security risk? You do appear to get a lot of content from sites I've never heard of.
I'm not accusing anyone of anything. I've seen alot of mis-information about security and other issues that were ignored by service providers such as yourself.
Zemanta maybe the Queen's lace, but I still scrutinize everything carefully now.
I have installed your plugin for my browsers and Drupal, but I am thinking seriously thinking of changing that. Not because I think your service is bad, just because I know what people will do to get their links onto top sites to improve their google ratings.
I think in the spirit of community 0pen source like your service is... content providers should embrace that same spirit when they share information. I don't mind displaying links within content and images, but I do resent direct hyperlinks to them. Also, I resent those links take users off my site.
I’m indifferent

Inappropriate? Our service is designed to work best when you use WYSIWYG editors. We're sorry if that's not working for you and we're trying to make this experience better for HTML mode but it's a much bigger design challenge that we're attacking bit by bit with each new release.
We respect your policy regarding image linking. At the moment photographers were really loud and clear in regards of attribution. So in spirit of good will towards content creators we're opting into giving more rather than less attribution. If that doesn't work for your blog style, we're sorry. We are working on some techniques to make this less intrusive and we plan to have this ready in near future.
Regarding the hyperlinks, there are three places in the interface that you can click that will insert a link:
- image with an attribution link
- related article with a backlink
- hyperlinking the actual word
The idea is that links are only placed _when user clicks the selection_, so you keep full editorial control of what is added to your blog post. If you don't like our recommendations, don't apply them.
Our links come from a number of sources (images - flickr, wikipedia, daylife; links from 18 different databases: Wikipedia pages, Amazon, IMDB, etc. (you can see full list on our homepage); articles come from over 6000 feeds that we track).
Regarding 6000+ feeds that we track, we manually add them and we make sure there is no spam or bad content in them. Mistakes to happen so if you get a bad recommended site, please let us know and we'll promptly remove it.
Images and hyperlinks come from reputable web properties, so there shouldn't be an issue with spam or security.
Regarding the added value of our links, we clealy show you where they are pointing to and make them opt-in. It's there if you'd like to insert it as a helper. We're not making that decision instead of you, which gives you full editorial control.
Our JavaScripts are also open, if you want to take a look at the code we run as well as we have an Open API that our widget is using and you can use directly to further inspect our service as well build your own version that will satisfy your specific editorial needs.
If you have more questions or I didn't answer your questions, let me know. I'm also happy to arrange a skype call so we can have more through discussion about the issues you raised, if you want.
