The company has not planned to implement this.

All the photos that Zemanta inserts are roughly 240x160 pixels. That's about 30kb of data.
That means that the photo size is already optimal and even if we showed you size of the original photo, we would still insert a smaller size photos.
In short: you don't have to worry about photo size, as we're already inserting most optimal version of the image.
The company thinks
this is one of the best points

Inappropriate? Thanks for the reply. I had a look at my website loading speed and noticed that some of the flickr photos through Zemanta was large and slowing the page. I cannot remember the size but it was a lot more than 30kb. I will get back with an example when a create a post again. Thanks

Inappropriate?I also find Jure's dismissal a bit quick. Not only for loading speed, but also for aesthetic reasons, I use only images of certain size, both in terms of width as well as file size.
The "take whatever we give you or take nothing" approach is unsatisfying. I also suggested improved control over image size, orientation and aspect control. -
Inappropriate? When I posted this issue the images suggested were huge and I had to take them off my blog after I check the loading speed at http://www.websiteoptimization.com/se... To give you an example I then had a look at a random image suggested by Zemanta http://www.flickr.com/photos/54658646... Again this is a huge image and not close to 30 kb. I used the web service above to check the size and this is what it tells me; "The size of this web page (3000939 bytes) has exceeded the maximum size of 3000000 bytes". Therefore this is a massive image suggested by Zemanta.

Inappropriate?Flickr offers different image sizes and we try to use the most appropriate one with measures closest to what Jure said. In case of Johan's example I would expect that we insert image http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2318/2... (12KB). If that is not the case, then we probably have a bug in our code.
Like w7 I would also like to control which image size gets used on my blog, but sadly we haven't had the time yet to implement this functionality. -
Inappropriate?Hi Thanks for the reply. I loaded http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2318/2... and it was 12 kb. I will get back here when I can duplicate the problem.
