Zemanta aligning doesn't work.
I'm very disappointed; I was really looking forward to using such a great time-saver but unfortunately it doesn't work as it's supposed to. Images don't align properly. I read the quick workaround (remove the 'width' element) but it still doesn't work. Going to have to give it away if you can't come up with a fix.

I am sorry to hear you had a bad experience. Would you be so kind to let me know on which platform this happens and when exactly does it fail? Does it misalign in editor or only after post is published?
If later and you are using a WordPress 2.6 or newer, then problem might be caused by your theme not supporting WordPress' way of aligning, which is by using alignleft and alignright classes together with corresponding CSS changes.
This problem can usually be resolved by adding following lines to theme's stylesheet:
.alignleft {float:left;}
.alignright {float:right;}

Inappropriate?Dear Mike,
can you please give us two more details:
a) Which version of Wordpress are you using?
b) Are you using Zemanta browser extension or server side plugin?
Link to some of your blog posts with Zemanta images would also help us to nail down the issue!
Thanks!

Inappropriate?Same thing happens to me, using firefox plugin and latest wordpress. The additions to the stylesheet do fix this, but previous zemanta versions didn't require that - they just worked. A lot of people will miss the value of zemanta if this is not corrected.
-
Inappropriate?Incidentally - inside a blockquote, the stylesheet additions dont' help. Probably need .alignleft blockquote etc. But shouldn't have to go through all that.

Inappropriate?I agree with you, Daniel, that this shouldn't be necessary. Our problem is that we had to pick between two bad options.
We can't tell which theme you are using and if it supports aligning with CSS classes. So we had to choose between forcing our alignment and risk that our CSS clashes with those from themes or follow WP's way of doing things and fail on themes that don't comply.
We decided that later approach is better, because this CSS problem is for users easier to fix and with time more themes will support this. We hope. -
Inappropriate?Thanks for the reply. Well, now that I know about it, i can add it to all my blogs. I hope you guys will put it in the faq or help on your site, along with additional css tags for when it happens in blockquotes. I'm only thinking, from a marketing perspective, that the moment code is required for most people, theyr'e going to balk. So many bloggers aren't code savvy, and wouldn't mess w. their stylesheet. Most want wrapping images, which I think is the most powerful feature of Zemanta for attracting wide audiences. It worked so well before this. Maybe even a link on the zemanta plugin sidebar in wordpress called "align images" or "wrap text around images" that takes you to the solution in a new window ("_blank") would cushion this problem.
Anyway, I'm just a fan of zemanta, so my input is based on wanting it to succeed. As an internet marketing consultant, I think just the use of tags alone is superb. I wish the links connected to more thinks - e.g. in addition to wikipedia, I'd like to see an option for linking straight to google search. For instance - for the word ozymandias a link to this: http://tinyurl.com/zemanta-example - and/or links to google image search, google translator, google books (for book titles), google maps (for place names), etc. The wikipedia stuff is superb - i was doing that before I discovered zemanta. But occasionally, you want to link to one of these other options.
What would be sweet too, is integration between zemanta and one of the all-in-one seo plugins for wordpress. Those don't just apply tags but also titles and keywords and descriptions. And turn tags into keywords. The problem is that sitting down and typing that stuff out for each post is a hassle and so it doesn't get done, usually. The mindset of writing and of publishing are two different things. The brilliance of zemanta is that it allows you to stay in the writing mindset, while it handles the details needed for effective publishing, presentation, etc. It's the effectiveness/presentation/style link/glue between blogging and marketing, or blogging and publishing effective blogs. If zemanta populated one of those seo plugins with title, keyword, and description tags for each post... hoo-eee -- I can't see how any blogger would want to do without it. -
Thank you for the awesome feedback :D
