Javascript text editor auto formatting is annoying
The auto formatting for the javascript editor is annoying like the auto formatting for the visual studio text editor was. It would be better to just allow the user to control the formatting, imo.

Inappropriate?Hi Jim,
Can you please be more specific on what exactly is wrong? What browser have you used?
Are you referring to the explicit "format code" action that sits in the editor toolbar (in the bottom) or you're referring to some kind of "autoformatting". To my understanding, the editor shouldn't change the code as you type (no autoformatting), if it appears it does, it's certainly a bug.

I'm not able to sign in at the moment (can't get past the "Creating Sun Dev Account" step), so I can't reverify this issue. I either used Firefox 3.0.x or Google Chrome browser... -
I noticed this as well. I'll type spaces or enter and it automatically removes all the whitespace between the tags. The other editor doesn't have this problem but isn't as nice. -
Inappropriate?Jim, that's too bad that you're having problems with logging in. Can you please reach to us at support@zembly.com and include the email you're logging in with? We should be able to help you there.
Thanks! -
Inappropriate?malachid: thanks for the feedback. Could you elaborate a bit? What does the code look like after and before you format?
Also, which one is the "other editor"?
thanks. -
Inappropriate? If I use the Javascript editor; then randomly as I am typing spaces, tabs and newlines near where I am typing just go away... So for example, I'll hit [enter][tab][a][b] and all the sudden the next line or three are on the same line as where I am typing.
I don't get that behavior from Bespin; but it usually takes 5-10 clicks to get it to let me start typing and sometimes the syntax coloring on it just stops.
Currently, I like the Javascript browser better for functionality and look - but I use Bespin just because the everything on one-line thing annoys me too much. -
Inappropriate?malachid,
Thanks for the feedback. We are actually seriously considering replacing the default editor with bespin, mostly to take advantage of the rapidly growing bespin feature set, but also in part because fixing this and other issues in the default editor is not easy.
I would be very interested to hear more details about what functionality you are missing in Bespin. And which aspects of the look and feel you would miss. -
Inappropriate? My main issues with bespin are:
1. I regularly have to click repeatedly (3,5,10 times) to get it to let me type
2. It is really really slow compared to the Javascript one
3. Sometimes the syntax coloring doesn't work
and I just noticed that if I type 'help' in the command line at the bottom, the popup window can't be closed (with the x)
#1 is by far the biggest reason I get frustrated and turn the javascript one back on. -
Inappropriate?Thanks. This is very helpful.
We'll be looking more closely at load time (I assume a long load time is the cause of #1) and typing responsiveness (#2?). Hopefully some changes already underway will help at least #1.
As for #3, just wondering if you are seeing no syntax coloring at all or if you are seeing parts of the code not being colored as they should. Also does the same piece of code sometimes get colored properly and sometimes not, or is some of your code never properly highlighted? -
Inappropriate?I'm not sure that load time has anything to do with #1. I can let it sit there for 5 minutes after it thinks it is fully loaded and it will do the same thing.
The #3 is really inconsistent. I wish I could give you steps to reproduce. I have seen it work fine; I have seen it where none of the tabs were syntax colored; I have seen it where only FBML tab was syntax colored; I have seen it where moving the cursor caused the coloring to go away or come back.
