Ridiculous Late Fee Scenarios
Late Fee #1: About a year back I was "late" returning a Zipcar because the attendant at the garage made me wait 10 minutes before opening it. I was given a late fee credit as a "one time courtesy". I think it would have been more courteous to give the "one time courtesy" to the parking attendant.
Late Fee #2: I booked a Zipcar on my phone (on the Web, pre-iPhone app) in a garage with about 20 Zipcars. I booked a Scion xD, of which there were 3 of the same vehicle. 2 of these vehicles did not have a name *anywhere* to be found, on the front, back, windshield, etc. So I put my Zipcard up to one of the Scions and it unlocked. I figured that I made the right guess and was on my way to a restaurant about 30 minutes away with my date. After boasting about Zipcar's ease of use, I ended up standing outside the Scion trying to unlock it for about 5 minutes. After it just wouldn't work, I called customer service and they told me that I had grabbed the wrong vehicle and that they couldn't cancel it because it was reserved by someone else. I got hit with a late fee of around $150 and got billed for 2 reservations at the same time - something many of us realize would be impossible. Well... that "many of us" is not Zipcar customer service as they insisted on charging me for everything, including the late fee and the 2 cars at once, and giving me a 1 hour credit for the inconvenience since it was my "second offense" (see above). Absolutely crappy customer service and awful attempts at resolutions. I had to file a dispute with them (and they charged me a $25 fee for doing that). LOL... wow.

Inappropriate?Oh I forgot to mention that the kind customer service rep also added in that he was doing me a big favor with the 1 hour credit and was silent on the phone waiting for me to profusely thank him. I'm giving them 1 more chance before I give all of my business to cabs around the city instead.
