Same keeps happening to me this afternoon no matter what 0800 number I try! Maybe it's just a temporary glitch or something...

Yeah the same thing happens to me. Great service - if it works! After 29 days can't be a temporary glitch!

Hello Jodie, and Clady.

This is a temporary issue we’re experiencing. Our engineers are still investigating but in the meantime a work-around is described here: http://getsatisfaction.com/0800buster/topics/conference_call_number_not_working.

yeah I've had this for a month too. such a shame because such an awesome idea and previously such a great service. but if you can't pull it out the bag, why bother? Localphone presumably are not giving 0800B any engineers and its just a guy in a shed trying to fix it... terrible PR, and such a shame.

0800busters official rep', Dave Cardwell suggests starting an account with Localphone as you can ring 0800 free. 2 problems with this. Firstly, calls to 0800 may well have no charge but you have to submit £5 credit before you can make ANY calls. 2nd problem is you need to use a computer not your mobile phone, which somewhat defeats 0800 Busters main purpose. Do Localphone have any financial link with 0800 Buster? I have an unworthy suspicion that 0800Buster is merely being used to promote Localphone - and benefit from Martins Money Saving web promtion. I hope I am wrong. Tony

Hello Anthony. 0800Buster was created by Localphone engineers after coming up with the idea one afternoon. We do receive a small amount of money for handling the calls but this is negligible.

I suggested Localphone as an alternative while we fixed the issue (see my response below) as you can use it in exactly the same way as 0800Buster except you have to sign up for an account first, as the primary purpose of Localphone is to make cheap international calls.

There is no need to top-up if you are only making freephone calls as Localphone does not charge for these. You also don’t require a computer to make calls (see How to Call).

Hello everyone,

Sorry for the delay in replying to the recent comments, and in getting back to you on the initial problem.

Our investigation concluded that the issue was caused by a change in the way one of our suppliers handles DTMF (touch-dial tones). This introduced a very subtle bug that took some time to uncover.

Once we notified our supplier there was another delay while they made some changes on their end, and we made the corresponding fixes in our systems.

I have been away recently but am pleased to announce that as of a few days ago the problem was resolved. I can only apologise for any inconvenience caused, and for the delay of several weeks in fixing the problem, but this was a very tricky and low-level issue to diagnose and work around.

Please let me know if you see any further issues, or have any queries about the service.

I had an email as well to say it had been fixed but it’s still not working.
With any 0800 number.

We should all remember this is provided by a business (Localphone) and we know their primary concern is making money. The 0800 Buster dream is over time to head back to your local BT phone box.

A - We’re trying to fix this as we want to provide a good service. Could you give me a couple of examples of numbers that aren’t working to help investigate, as it only appears to be affecting specific numbers now.

As I’ve mentioned previously, you can sign up for a Localphone account in the meantime and call 0800 numbers for free via that. You may see a message saying you need to add funds to call, but you can ignore this if you’re just calling freephone numbers.

The new issue appeared to be related to newer numbers with 7 digits after the 0800. Could you try again now please?

Hi Dave, I am very pleased to tell you that 0800Buster is working fine & as a reminder to anyone that would like to make an easy short cut to say for example FREE directory enquiries you need to save the number in your mobile like this: 01163040800 p 08001183733# the p is a pause for my mobile and most Nokias I think. This takes you straight through without having to manually dial each time. Well done Dave for fixing this - my confidence in you is restored PLUS I also use Localphone for other purposes too such as a virtual local land line. So, we are all winners! Ta very much.

Hello, Anthony. Thanks for letting me know. We had to move 0800Buster on to a dedicated server of its own in the end, but there shouldn’t be any future problems with calls or DTMF now.

Hello, Stephen. If I call that number directly from a BT landline I get the ”This number has not been recognised” message, so it looks like this isn’t an 0800Buster problem.

Kevin - please could you let me know the number you’re dialling (both the 0800Buster access number and the 0800 number). I just tried it from my iPhone and it seems to be working fine.

Hi Dave, It was the number shown on this website. The exact string was:-

01239360800, 08001183733#

I also tried National Grid free phone number (0800 328 1111), and that didn't work either.

I recently tried redialing 7 times and then it finally worked. Not once did I try changing the number. So definitely a problem with the service.

We’re trying to investigate this but have so far been unable to replicate the problem. We’ve tried from our own phones which worked, and there are a lot of calls going through fine at the moment.

Please could you let me know what network you’re with so I can eliminate this as a factor?

Hi. Just trying to use the service for the first time. I'm following the instructions on my HTC HD2 phone from T mobile. I'm being careful not to press the green "talk" button, but nothing is happening. just silence.
Number I'm trying to ring is 0800 0740745.
Not sure what I'm doing wrong, can you help?
Many thanks
