Prescription Infant Formula

Our 6mo son is allergic to milk so his doctor prescribed processed infant formula Similac Expert Care® Alimentum (costs about $100/week). Is that a covered expense under my flex spending?

  • Infant formula is a potentially qualifying expense.

Ordinary infant formula (or supplemental vitamins to be used in conjunction with breastfeeding) won’t qualify.  However, the excess cost of a special formula to treat an infant’s medical condition may qualify.  To show that the expense is primarily for medical care, a note from a medical practitioner recommending the item to treat a specific medical condition would be required. You can find the letter of medical necessity under the forms page on our website: www.24hourflex.com/forms
