I’m confused

Can we collaboratively build a course without sharing student lists?

Is there any way for multiple teachers to collaboratively add quests to a course but have two separate classes? I want to build our Y8 units into 3DGL with our Y8 teaching team, and it is likely that we will be adding 'side quests' and 'bonus quests' throughout the year, but I don't see how we can have a quest appear in each teachers course without all teachers working from the same course, and thereby making it must more difficult to track their own students progress (As the 'Group' and 'Quest Approver' lists will be a medley of the entire year group)

  • Thank you for your question. You can have teachers working collaboratively in a group, so yes, you're correct there. What I've seen work pretty well for schools and districts approaching quest-based learning systematically across classrooms is to have a "master" course or group where instructors build. Then individual teachers can make copies once it's ready for student use. Again, this takes planning and time because instructors are making copies of a "finished" chain of quests. If you're editing and building on the fly (which is common), it adds complexity, but you can still add quests later by having instructors access the new quests through the armory, given proper search terms and given that the quest is clearly tagged. Hope this helps.

  • Okay, so if we tag our quests with a unique tag (Such as our school name), teachers can search for individual quests and easy add them to their course? Will this work for quests that are set to private?
I imagine prerequisites wont copy and will have to be re-set by the teacher? Is there any other data like this that won't copy across? (Category, badges, awards etc?)

It add a little extra work that I was hoping to avoid, collaboration won't be as fluid as I hoped it would if I get other teachers in the year group on board with this platform.
Is there any play to separate course from the group at a later stage, so that multiple groups can work through the same course as it is built by multiple teachers?

  • Yes, that's how tagging can support collaboration. Private quests are not findable in the quest armory. Prerequisites do copy and are part of the new groups. Rewards copy. Quest content copies. The only feature of groups that I don't believe copies are Teams, which could affect gameplay if the Team is used as a prerequisite.
