Designing quests with the iPad in mind
If you embed a video from YouTube or TED, consider putting the full title of the video in your instructions. It makes it easier for someone on an iPad to find the video in the YouTube or TED app.

That's a good idea. It's interesting how tablets are changing the way we design things. Very cool. Thank you for the suggestion, we'll do it.

I agree with this - it might be nice to add reminders for people who are not yet using mobile technologies - to add the tools that make that possible. As more and more students obtain these tools but still lack personal computers or choose not to have them I see this becoming increasingly important to the function of 3D GameLab. Also - if I decide to create augmented reality quest lines - being mobile ready will be important to the student on the go.

Thanks for the great suggestion, we have added it to our list of desired improvements

Thank you so much for your post! We have ipad carts at our school and I was wondering if we would be able to use them as well for this!
-
-
I think that keeping iPads in mind is incredibly important - so many of my students have and use iPads, yet there are so many sites, videos, and simulations unavailable to them because they are flash-based!
-
-
I am really interested in this since I am teaching in a iPad classroom this semester. In addition, I agree that we need to look at mobile devises as many of students use this as their primary technology.
-
-
Yes, I agree that designing for mobile technologies is important because often I want to approve quests on my smartphone and 3d gamelab does not show up very well on those, particularly when I want to type a comment and the keyboard hides the comment area. Makes it impossible to comment on android.

-
I am also having trouble viewing linked websitesgames/simulations that are Flash based. What alternatives do you suggest for iPad users?
-
-
Have you seen this? https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/photo...
It's a possible solution. Anyone have experience with this? -
-
I am going to try the Photon Flash Player. Thank you for the great suggestion!
-
-
I am also wondering about Flash since anything using this program is not accessible on an ipad and many students have ipads at home.I am going to look at the link above and play around a bit on my husband's ipad this weekend.

-
I also agree with this! I use my ipad for everything now a days. Especially when I am doing school work at work! It makes it easier for others not notice what I am doing.

-
I can currently access our online learning platform from my iPad for grading purposes. I would love that capability with this platform as well!

Hi jenndln -
I have good news; you can access GameLab via iPad - launch Safari and navigate to http://portal.3dgamelab.org! Do you have any particular questions regarding iPads and 3D GameLab?-
Hi Wes, just a heads up. The help, logout, profile, and account buttons on the iPad interface float over the top right corner blocking the System Wide XP data. Maybe moving the button group over 70% on the horizontal would work...

Thank you. I will report this to our development team as an issue to fix.

I'm just getting started at this, but I am impressed that so far things seem to work just fine on my iPad. I'm hoping that I won't have to lug my work computer home for this class that I'm taking.

Very cool.. I was asking myself how to make it more ipad/iphone friendly. A lot of students will BYOD in our system, and I myself like to access with my iphone when i have a moment... and I'm hoping for ipads for my class! bingo
-
This is very encouraging to me, as well, since our campus also has BYOD and students are more likely to be able to access on their mobile devices.
-
-
We're a BYOD school as well and I can see my students using mobile devices on their way to extracurricular events.

For some of the quests that I have created, I've added special instructions for my iPad users. That seems to work.

Designing for mobile devices is very important as they seem to be taking over.

Good to know about Photon. Two of our middle schools have 1:1 iPads, so I am very interested int his thread.
-
-
We work with a school district that uses only iPads and they have a very strong, successful initiative with quest-based learning using 3D GameLab.
-
-
I think this makes a lot of sense since a lot of schools are given iPad's and tablets since they are much easier to move around. This would make the software much more accessible for schools, especially in the elementary levels.
-
-
I think this is a great idea and makes this more fun school work even more accessible to the technological generation!
-
-
An ipad app would also be awesome, simplified so students could quickly check a quest or their xp. Maybe post in a discussion or check their announcements, badges and rank. Useful for younger students too I believe.

An IPad interface app is noted on our engineering cue for consideration. Thank you for your input!
