XP for Discussion
It would be great to award XP for discussion board participation.

One way is to create a new badge or achievement worth a certain amount of points and manually award that badge/achievement. You can call the new badge "Bonus" (or something similar) and make it worth an increment like 10, 20 or 50 XP.
Click on Group > Click on student's gamertag > click on the 'Reward this user' button toward the top right to select and give a manual award.

That is true, however it is very time consuming. If I had quick Award XP button on the discussion board or an award drop down menu there. That would make it so much easier.
