Can't write on Kindle Fire

Hi. I have a Kindle Fire and just downloaded the app. It opens fine and lets me create a new document, but I simply can't write on it. I tried my finger, the back of a pen, etc. Nothing is working, not even a little bit. Is there more setup I need to do?
