converting to text using free kindle fire

I have just installed the 7notes for kindle fire free version, and am having trouble finding any way of getting text from handwriting. I do not see the "tilde A" button i see in your videos, nor the line of predictive text words to choose from. The handwriting box at the bottom of the screen is always yellow, not purple. Am I just missunderstanding your controls, or is handwriting to text only available in the paid version? I am not asking about converting saved handwriting to text, but about contemporaneous conversion.
