Import and Export PDF and MSWord documents from 7Notes

This is already a great app, but would be perfect if you added a feature where you could import a file (e.g. a meeting agenda from word or pdf) and use that as a template to write on.

I like to write my own notes on my agendas for meetings, and this function would allow me to download/import them and write my notes down.

Just a thought!

Offering this would be invaluable for those who want to write/edit papers, corporate documents or books on their iPad. Some (like me) relied on their Palm PDAs to do this and miss this feature on iPads. Of course one can type, but there is something in the actual connection of pen to paper that helps generate creativity.

Please consider this as well!

  This is still an area that we revisit on a regular basis and we have thrashed a number of potential solutions around. One of the ideas at the moment would be to have the import / export feature as a Word extension rather than within 7Notes on the iPad (iPhone/Android etc!). Another idea would be to build some kind of online conversion ability.
  
  Any thoughts are welcome as we recognise that this would be a very useful feature - we just need to make sure the solution is one that will work across all the 7Notes platforms.

  Hi Ben, thanks for the update! I can't comment on the technical details (but hopefully someone else on this post can!), but it's very exciting to see different options being looked out. I can only imagine the complexity of working across platforms!
  
  I do have some thoughts, though:
  1) I personally think an extension of one form or another would be better than an online conversion ability, since the extension doesn't rely on server availability (e.g. the iPad's internet connection, the server itself being down or the service being withdrawn at some point in the future). As iPad and iPhone both use iOS, would the solution be similar for these--making the difference then be to develop a solution for Android that's compatible?
  
  2) It might be of interest to see how programs like Documents to Go address this issue, since they too involve working across platforms. Perhaps a similar approach might be possible?
  
  3) Is there any possibility of a joint venture, such as with Documents to Go? Perhaps 7notes handwriting functionality could be incorporated as a feature in an upcoming version of that software, with appropriate royalties being paid to 7notes? 7notes would still offer its distinct offering, enabling it to continue attracting its target customer group.

  We are just putting together the prototype for importing text from pdf and word at the moment. I would estimate that it will be ready for testing in another 2 weeks or so. Once we have the import working I will turn my attention to how to export the 7notes docs into Word format!

  Hi, a quick update on the conversion. We have got the basic word and pdf import to 7doc format working and are just testing the more complex documents to ensure that character conversations work properly. The conversion site should be up relatively soon for you to try some of your own documents and help us get it ready. I will be back...!

  Are there also plans for this conversion function to be built into the software itself, so that it doesn't require an Internet connection to work? This would be a significant advantage, as it means that users can convert files wherever they are and it makes the feature more robust as well (as it doesn't depend on a server being up).

1) i cannot open the ".7doc" with ANY programs. Help?

2) export into Word / Pages format is a MUST..they ought to have solved this by now!!
I and it sounds like almost every user wants to edit the text in word/pages (for me to convert to Client presentable letters on headed paper.)

3) I did note that I can export to pdf, then copy the whole document notes and paste into word. extremely curcuitous but it works (to an extent).

otherwise the prgram is great and wipes the floor with other handwriting recognition software i have used - but it is only as good as its functionality AFTER it recognises handwriting.

  1. The .7doc format currently can only be opened using the 7notes products. For example you can email a 7doc file to your iPad and open the document directly within 7notes from the email attachment. At this time there are no filters for loading .7doc format files into other applications.
  
  2. We don't have a direct export to Word or Pages at this time, but there is an alternative approach which is to copy the text of your 7notes document (hold down on the first word of your document, select all, then copy) and then paste into your Pages document.
  
  3. In addition to a PDF you can email just the text of the document to yourself, open on the machine that your Word document is being edited with, and then copy and paste the text.
  
  We are looking at ways to address the issues that you have mentioned in a consistent way for all devices that 7notes currently runs on (for example, it has to work the same way for a Kindle Fire user, an Android user, and an iPad user). Your comment regarding having the functionality in place after the handwriting has been recognised is a very good one and one that we are taking seriously.

Hello,

One of the reasons I purchsed this app on my ipad is to take an image (of a product) write a description, be able to upload to dropbox and print and keep a copy.

If I wanted to copy and paste, and then insert the picture again in a sep app or word etc, i would take pics, write notes and then do the work myself. is there no other way???

please please please make it so we can export to just a .doc format!!!

I share your frustration and others -- the iPad is great, but I'm annoyed that it doesn't support handwriting recognition in English (but it does for Chinese!) or even let other developers like 7Notes come up with something (like a 'keyboard') that can fill the gap.

I'm even on the verge of buying a new Google Nexus 7 to take with me -- but I'd really rather just keep using my iPad.

I created a Facebook page in hopes that it would help Apple get the message -- the link is:

Has exporting to a word document been added yet? If it has I will buy this app in a heart beat, otherwise I will have to pass and hope somebody else comes out with a handwriting app that can ultimately become a word document.

I often work on a htp tablet with windows handwriting to text recognition. I had to train my writing by copying 50 sentences but it now recognises better than 99 percent which is much better than 7 notes and the application works in any document in any programme. Time for 7 notes to step up to the competition

I have been waiting for the integration of the app with other applications and the importing of even .PDF backgrounds for the last two years....!

I think another app is the answer, these guys just aren't interested.
