ActiveIbox is slowing down GMail in Chrome 80

I'm a long-time user of ActiveInbox, but in the past month or two, it's suddenly started to cause my Gmail to slow down to the point where it is almost unusable. When I'm actively using GMail, it becomes unresponsive for a short period every 5-10 seconds. While it's unresponsive, I can keep typing and what I type will eventually make it to the screen, but I eventually need to stop and let it catch up. It really saps my productivity.

During the time it's unresponsive, there is heavy disk activity, to the point where my SSD is actually making a substantial amount of noise (yes, SDDs can be noisy when under stress). This probably has something to do with the fact that my inbox has a very large number of e-mails in it (I don't get to archiving everything on a regular basis), but that's always been the case and things were mostly OK until recently. After uninstalling ActiveInbox, the pauses and drive noise have gone away.

I'm using fully updated Chrome 80 on an up-to-date Windows 10. At this point, I don't use many of the features of ActiveInbox, the biggest things I have a hard time surviving without, although are the nexters, which are a rather simple, but life-changing innovation. I probably don't need whatever is causing my drive to churn so heavily. I wonder if it's possible to allow some of the features that may not work well with large inboxes to be turned off?

In any case, I would love to get back to using ActiveInbox, but as it isn't working well in Chrome and also not at all on Firefox, I'm kind of stuck without it. I realize that unless others are reporting this behavior, it will be hard for you to debug without my help. I will do what I can, but I don't have a lot of bandwidth right now. Hopefully, this is something others are seeing, too.

In any case, I just wanted to let you know that although I love ActiveInbox, I've had to abandon it for now and have not renewed, although my subscription is up. Thanks for any help or ideas you can provide.
