ActiveInbox Email Client

This is a wild idea, one that requires long-term consideration. I've been using ActiveInbox for quite a while and love it. However, it requires using Gmail. Not everybody who could benefit from using AI are using Gmail, and some are unwilling to use it.

The idea of integrating AI with email is sound and proven to work when using Gmail. However, there's no reason it wouldn't also work well with any email account.

One of the disadvantages of tying your product to a third party, such as Gmail, is that whenever that third party changes something, it has the potential to break your software. So one way of looking to expand your potential list of customers is to develop your own email client that already has AI integrated with it.

This does two things. First, it allows non-Gmail users to use (and buy) your excellent product. Second, it eliminates the problem of things breaking whenever Google changes something in Gmail.

As a fellow software developer, I understand that what I ask is not easy and requires a long-term plan. I also imagine it is something your team has discussed at one point or another. I'm just giving you a little nudge for something to think about once again.

  • Hello

Thanks for your post. Andy always developed ActiveInbox to work with Gmail as it's the largest email provider out there with the most development put into it. You're right in that every time Gmail changes something it affects or breaks part of ActiveInbox; I think it's part of the fun for Andy!

Developing a new email client is a massive undertaking and not something a (deliberately) small team such as ours could undertake even if we wanted to. It takes a massive amount of investment not just financial to make something that's workable and then you have to get people to use it....

I'll bring up your post at our next Suggestions meetings and get proper feedback from Andy and then come back and update this post. We have the Suggestions meetings every few weeks so we should have the next one in January.

    Have a great New Years.

  • Hello

I spoke to Andy and he said that it's not something he would be considering this year. We're developing our own mobile app and that's where we want to concentrate our efforts.

It's not something that's been on our radar to do so it might not even be considered however thank you for taking the time to put the suggestion in as all suggestions create talking points which is valuable.
