Re: Recent survey feature: Suggest project folders for emails

I didn't see this idea here, but if I haven't suggested it I have secretly been hoping for it.

I find it cumbersome to create filters for all emails with certain qualities and if you provided not only a suggestion feature but auto filing feature based on subjects, contacts, groups of contacts, or similar that would be great.

I used to use ClearContext in Outlook before and it has this topic suggestion feature. http://www.clearcontext.com/

They weigh the contacts in the conversation, the subject line, conversation threads and more to identify the topic and suggest a project folder. Every email you file becomes another data point and the suggestions become stronger.

This paired with more accessible mute, and probably conversation thread splitting (all of my contacts like to change topic midthread or revive the last email we sent to each other and reply to contact me for some reason) would make ActiveInbox a killer product.

I'd like to think we're already a killer product :)

I'll add this to the Suggestions list - quick question, do you not find it annoying if you're getting suggestions all the time and you might not want them?

Hah, Sorry Lisa, not knocking it. You are the best I have found. And AIB6 has strengthened my resolve in that opinion. ( there were some slow and clunky things about the prior versions that tested my patience )

I just feel that this is one feature I had fallen in love with in the past that I haven't quite found just yet. I would love to see it and wanted to share my experiences with it after seeing that same feature in so many words in the survey you just ran.

To answer your question, I wouldn't say I found it frustrating. I think I may have left out some of the features that it offered though. It wasn't automatically assigning (unless I set it to for some topics/contacts/etc) but it would reduce the number of clicks.

Right now if I understand correctly your project selection sorts/suggests based on recency. What they would do, is sort by confidence that it was the topic for this email. It would have top choices from checks against who was in the conversation, the exact subject line (this was in outlook so the replies weren't always threaded correctly) and it would do things to improve and detect threading of conversations using the email headers.

It would do some of these suggestions so well, they later added a feature to offer the top choice as a quick assign button on the toolbar. So the "Assign project" dropdown would, given a strong confident match to a project, have a suggested project in it. Making it a single click to assign to the right thing.

The dropdown still existed though, and you would have a list of likely candidates for this topic to select from. Making it only a few clicks, no typing.

The algorithms were so strong I hardly ever had to think about what project I was assigning, it usually did the thinking for me.

You can read more about their filing features here http://www.clearcontext.com/user_guide/topics.html
