Hybrid 3 sequencer question

I'm pretty new to using arpeggiators/sequencers and I need help setting up a patch in Hybrid. What I want is very simple- to set up the arpeggiator so that when I play a chord, the chord repeats in sync with the master bpm. I don't want individual notes arpeggiated. With another synth I use (Applied Acoustics VA-2), there is a "chord" mode for the arpeggiator. I can't find anything like that for Hybrid. Any suggestions about how to set this up would be appreciated.

  • You need to work with the features of the step sequencer or arpeggiator supplied with Hybrid 3. If that doesn't have what you need, you could try a 3rd party MIDI chord plugin.

I don't see an arpeggiator chord mode in Hybrid 3, but I do see a step sequencer and a phrase sequencer, that can be used with chords.

Just start with a default patch, open up the A Sequencer. Under SETTINGS select "Step Seq". Turn on the 16 steps, but leave the note at "0".

Play a chord. It repeats for each step of the sequence.

Alternatively, select "Phrase", then select one of the Echo phrases supplied in the "PHRASE" dropdown box. It will echo the notes of any chord you play in sync, using a rhythmic pattern. These do not follow an up/down pattern, but echo all the notes you played.

You can also import MIDI phrases, but I haven't tried that yet.

  • John, thanks for taking the time to respond to my question. Your instructions were easy to follow and work, although I found that using AIR FilterGate with Hybrid provided an even better result.

  • Glad you got it sorted out. I didn't realize that you were looking for a gated effect.

I don't have the AIR effects, but I tried the demo of iZotope Stutter Edit a while back, and it appears to be the king of that sort of thing. Play the effects live.

Or, if you already have AIR Transfuser, you might be able to accomplish some of the same, but it may take a bit more effort to set up. Here's a video of what it can do.
