I’m frustrated

My upgrade codes are nonfunctional.

I own Strike 1.5, and now that the entire Expansion Pack is VST/AU, am finally ready to upgrade using the codes previously emailed to me. Yet when I enter my codes, no discount applies. Please help!

Following the advice of a number of other posters, I called AIR tech support at 6:23 pm. Obnoxiously close to the stated closing time of 6:30 pm, admittedly, but I wanted to get my hands on the Expansion Pack to use this weekend, and in my personal experience, both as a customer and as an employee, any customer who enters the queue before the close of business is entitled to service. After holding for literally 12 minutes, someone finally came on the line, only to say that he represented the message service for tech support, because no one from tech support was available, since the office was closed. And maybe AIR is so flush in customers, in fact, as not to need my business. I will say this: I was ready to complete a sale earlier today, but if this level of service is typical of AIR, I will certainly take my dollars elsewhere.

I already gave up on Pro Tools because of its exorbitant upgrade pricing and non-existent prosumer support. Despite that fact that I still own an 002 console, a BLA-modded 003 rack, and an MBox Mini, paying $200 to outfit my humble project studio with a brand new copy of Logic Pro X and its abundant collection of VIs and effects made eminently more sense than paying yet another $400 to (d)Avid for the privilege of upgrading software I already owned while locking myself into AAX. As such, I’ve almost sold my RTAS-only copy of Strike 1.5 more than once. Only now that the entire Expansion Pack is VST/AU compatible (an eventuality I truly and regretfully doubted) have I become willing and even eager to upgrade.

That said, while IMHO Vacuum Pro promises to absolutely kill Logic's Retro Synth (based on my experience with AIR’s original monophonic Vacuum), Logic's Drummer gives Strike an exceedingly serious run for the money. Moreover, I since already own a boatload of rhythm and tonal VIs in the form of Native Instruments Komplete (inclusive of Battery and Scarbee Vintage Keys, among others), definitive acoustic drum libraries in the forms of BFD2 and BFD3, as well as THE best virtual drummer in the PC-only form of the Jamstix 3.5 (a painfully quirky VI, to be sure, with a steep learning curve, which I use not for its internal sample library but rather for its astonishing customizability, expressiveness and personality), I could get by just fine without the Expansion Pack. Unless, of course, the talented folks at AIR manage to match the sonic brilliance of their VIs with equivalent customer service...

  • I think whoever told you to call at 6:23pm gave you some iffy advice.

My code finally worked early this morning, after neurotic attempt x+1 to buy the upgrade. Since I'd been pasting the code directly from the upgrade email I previously received from AIR, I'm sure I was entering the same code throughout all my previous attempts. The only difference was this: I did start to create a purchase account using the email to which Strike 1.5 is registered. Previous to this last attempt, I never went past the stage at which the code was supposed to be applied to the purchase price. Since entering the code had no effect on the price, I saw no point in entering payment information. So maybe the email address did the trick. Maybe somebody at AIR read the email I'd sent to support and/or this post and updated the appropriate database. In any case, I have new toys with which to play this weekend. Since I was quick to bitch about AIR's response yesterday, I should be equally quick to acknowledge my satisfaction with a successful upgrade.

  • The huge download is a pain, but well worth the effort. This is a fantastic update and the pack is one of the finest all-in-one's that exist.

Oh, and I own Halion Sonic 2 and Plugsound Pro and more VSTi's than I can count. Loving the update. Kudos to Air for the inclusive VST support.

    Unexpected and appreciated immensely.

  • V1 & 1.5 owners will be sent a new promo code allowing them to upgrade this week apologies for the delay.
