The new Strike 2.0.6 update didn't install and received an "unspecified error"

Strike 2 was a real challenge to get installed properly. It was such a relief when I finally figured it out. So I was going to skip the update, to wait & see if there's any bugs. But then curiosity killed the cat!

I downloaded the update and attempted to install. Not only did it not install, my DAW gave me a message that Strike was not installed. When I attempted to install, I got error messages ("unspecified error")
I tried extracting the original download: Winzip extracts it, and the install screen comes up, and the install procedure begins. But at the end, a window pops up that gives me 2 choices- Uninstall or Cancel. What the heck! Neither option results in success. So I went to Uninstall in the Windows control panel. When I try to uninstall, I get and error: "Network cannot connect to C:/App Data/Air Music" -or something like that. I'm running windows 8, and my DAW is Presonus Studio One ver 2.6. Help!

  • Hello David,

Thanks for posting this! Sorry to hear about your troubles. Did you attempt to upgrade to version 2.0.6? If so, I recommend you try re-downloading the update. You can use the AIR Upgrades Email Notification Utility to help you out - http://www.airmusictech.com/promocodes. You'll get emailed the download links. Make sure you don't change the default location for the the install. This could cause issues if you modify that.

  • Hello Chris,

Thanks for the reply. Yes, I tried to install 2.0.6. That's what broke Strike. I tried the link you posted, but that did not work. The e-mail I received said "...We searched our registration records and were unable to locate any eligible upgrades."...
As I said, Studio One gave me a message that Strike was not installed. And when I try to uninstall Strike, I get an error that says "Could not access the network location C:/ProgramData/Air Music Technology/Strike\
And, again, if I try to re-install Strike, when it get to the end, it gives me an option to Uninstall or Cancel. I'm banging my head right now. Should I just delete all files associated with Strike and re-download?

  • Update: I went into my account, and downloaded ver 2.0.6 (not just the update, but as a fresh, complete download). It goes all the way through the install procedure, building my hopes. Then, at the very end, it still says "Could not access the network location C:/ProgramData/Air Music Technology/Strike\ - breaking my hopes and dreams. Please restore my sanity! I know that there's a solution, so I'll stay patient. But please guys, make installation and updating more idiot proof. It is VERY easy to do things the wrong way when installing and updating instruments.

  • Same issue here. This happened with one of the previous updates too if i remember correctly.

Not only does the 2.0.6 Strike installer not complete (it's looking in the wrong place for the content - why it thinks its on a network drive I have no idea) but it also deletes the previous installed plugins.

Update 2: O.K....I got it working again. Honestly, I'm not sure exactly what I did that got it to work, as I tried a dozen times to get things working.

But here's what I do remember:... 1. I eventually downloaded 2.0.6 from my products page, and downloaded TO THE DESKTOP. I ran the installer (part 1 of 3 of the entire install package). 2. In a few minutes, Strike asked for part 2 of the download. THEN I downloaded part 2. This allowed me to specify to the Strike installer where to find the next part (which I also downloaded to the desktop). I did the same for part 3 of the download. 3. The installer still gave me an error message, which was different from previous error messages. Maybe it was "unspecified object not found" or something like that. I clicked "Try again" about 5 times. Then the installer gave me the option to UNINSTALL, which I chose.

    4. Then I ran the installer yet again. After a few more error messages, and clicking try again, Strike 2.0.6 installed successfully. At last!

Sorry that this was so long, and also that I probably screwed up some of the details. It's because I'm not very technical, and because i tried so many different things. But maybe it will give others who have ran into the same problem some clues.

What I THINK is most important: Download everything to the desktop...nowhere else! Like many people, I would prefer to specify a folder other than the desktop, for housekeeping/organizational reasons. I strongly advise against this. Downloading to anywhere else seems to totally screw up Strikes' installer, even if you have been 100% consistent when it comes to WHERE you download and install your plugins.

Seriously, can u guys just fix the installer and test these things before they are released. This is a total pain.

  • I’m sick to death of shoddy updates
I finally managed to download the full installer & that also tries to install the content on my (apparently) networked C: drive.

I live in Australia so I'm not about to be making any phone calls to support. I also never received a support code (in order to email tech support) when I registered so apparently I can't email them either.

Honestly, since you guys took over the IEP it's been one stuff up after another right from the initial outset.

Thank God I never paid to upgrade Xpand2 to VST.

  • having the same problem here with strike,
but I am also having similar problem with structure, with the only difference that structure factory content was not deleted on update,
and finally with transfuser which installs well, but after the update all original content is being erased.

I tried rolling back on earlier version and tried to update again, but the result is always the same...

    screenshots below:
also got the error logs for anyone interested

  • Now Strike has stopped working for me. It freezes Studio One ver 2.6 when I try to put it onto a track. I have no idea why. I didn't change the location of anything, or mess with the setup. When I try to un-install Strike (in order to attempt to re-install, I get this error:

Maybe I'll just use Ignite (and other programs) for my drums. The setup for Strike can be really confusing and frustrating. I'm hoping that the next update streamlines everything regarding installation/setup for Strike.

    * Maybe this thread should not have the green check mark for "Solved".

    • What are your computer specs David? Make sure your computer is fully exceeding minimum system requirements as indicated from the product page here http://www.airmusictech.com/product/s....
    • Hello Chris,
I have a Lenovo with AMD A10 chips, 12 Gigs of RAM, 4 main compute cores, with 8 more graphics cores, 3.5 Ghz speed processor. So this is definitely not an issue with meeting the spec requirements. *I'm running Windows 8.
When Strike was working, there were no issues- CPU load was not particularly high. I bought the Air Instrument Expansion Pack: Everything works except Strike2, which has been the one with the install issues (Transfuser gave me just a bit of trouble, but I got that working reasonably quickly).

  • I’m frustrated
I tried the upgrade which failed with the same path error everyone else is seeing. The installer then left strike broken and not working. I ran the uninstaller, then manually deleted the sample library that the uninstaller failed to clean up. Then I had to take most of a day to download the full version of 2.06. I was able to install that after fixing the path to the library the installer displayed which was again wrong.

I have things working again. In my opinion Air should take the 2.06 upgrade installer off the website since it doesn't work and point users to doing an uninstall and reinstall of the full version.

  • Hello Everyone,

Thank you for all the feedback. I'm going to forward all of this to my AIR team. Question before I do, are you each of you on Windows computers? I wonder if this "error issue" is only prominent for Windows users only, not Mac.

Also, try out the following steps to see if this helps:

    1. Move all 2.0.5 Plug-In versions to a Backup drive or thumb drive,
    2. Extract the Updates to your Desktop,
    3. Right-click on the Updates and select Run as Administrator.

Please try this out Windows users and let me know if it works for you!

  • Just for info, the newly posted Strike 2.0.7 installer does exactly the same. It's looking for the sample content on a network drive. I even edited the registry entry for the content in case that was the issue to no avail.

FWIW - I had no issues with either of the recent Strike Update Installers - both the 2.0.6 and 2.0.7 Strike Updates installed without a problem.

I also had no problems with the Structure 2.0.6 Update.
However, I had problems with both the Structure 2.0.7 Update and the Structure 2.0.7 full Setup Installers. I have notified the AIR Music Tech Beta Forum of this.

    Awaiting further news.
    • Thanks for the info. I found out today that the 2.0.6 Transfuser update had delete all of the content! Reinstalled 2.0.2 and then the 2.0.4 update wouldn't install. Fortunately I recovered the 2.0.5 .aax & vst .dll's so at least I'm back where I was before all this mess started. Right now I'm just about done with AIR and their buggy releases. I have yet to see what sort of a mess the 2.0.6 update did to Structure...

  • Having the same exact issue as described above while trying to install the v2.0.7 update for Strike. I will try full reinstall and will report how things turn out. It's a bit frustrating as only AIR plugs suddenly stopped working after iLok drivers update, too strange and very inconvenient.
