Duplicate copies of calendar events on Outlook after sync

Multiple copies of calendar events entered on AirSet are appearing in my Outlook calendar. These events only appear once on AirSet but up to four times on Outlook. If I delete the duplicate entries on Outlook, they reappear at the time of the next sync. Any idea how to fix this?

This issue is still alive and unwell.
One entry in AirSet CC appears as two entries on the Android calendar (although not always...)
If I remove the duplicate entry in the droid calendar it deletes the original CC entry as well, then kills the orphan entry in the droid calendar. This is so bad.

Also, as a beta member for some time, why is it that the entries in these forums are so STALE...!

    • @Fran,
There are a couple of situations for duplicates.

      1. If the event is of the Calendar subscribed to multiple Cloud Computers from Public directory or iCal feed.
      2. If the event is shared to multiple Cloud Computers from another Cloud Computer which you are not syncing.
Is your situation either of these?

  • Actually it was never resolved. I had to periodically delete and recreate the airset account each time...:-(

      @Fran,
I assume your situation is not on Outlook but your phone.

When you see duplicates on your phone, instead of delete and create on your phone, please try "Force re-sync"
On AirSet, please go Settings on your Personal, select Preferences in the left pane, and you'll see [List of Syncing Devices].
Select your device in the list, and select "Calendar" for Data type, and proceed to [Force Re-Sync]

  • I’m unhappy and looking for another solution as this is not being addressed in well over a year...
This issue is appearing on all my devices - smartphone, tablet and laptop. I am a long-time user of Airset and I believe I have a fair grasp of the utility.
However the issue is one that I have a big problem with.
As I have pointed out before, I have deleted and reconstituted my Airset account many times on these devices, without success. Each time the problem recurs.
Airset is a great system but this issue is getting to be a deal breaker for me - and I suspect many others also.
I do not feel I should have to perform extra steps to keep AirSet from duplicating entries, I feel the system should be able to deal with this.
I have attached a screen shot from my tablet to illustrate the issue. Note the rash of duplicates.
I am not a happy (paying) customer...

  • I’m hoping I'm rid of air-set for now.
I'm now wondering why I even got this email? I thought I had closed my account. Guess i had better re-check it.
    To the point of discussion.
I resolved it by deleting my air-set account.
After hours of repetitive removals just to have it re-sync and reload the duplicates I gave up and deleted my account.
I liked air-set when it was simple. It has transformed into something to busy and complicated for me to deal with.
I wish you all the best of luck.

  • I also have the problem, and have stopped using Airset because of it, but I am suddenly getting these posts in my email (also multiple times, which may be a clue to the problem) perhaps airset creates an additional user for each device you sync to or something of that nature.

  • @Fran - click on the "gear" icon in the upper right of any AirSet page and then click on the Contact Us menu item. This will let you send us an email with some of your system info and we can try and diagnose your problem.

@Sonny & Rmundell - you are still getting these messages because Get Satisfaction is a separate company. You will need to delete your account, or change your settings at http://getsatisfaction.com/ to stop getting notifications. Of course you will only get notifications on threads you previously participated in that have new comments so that will diminish over time if your do nothing.
    • Even in a "clean room" situation with a new device the situation recurs. Therefore I have to believe the cause of the issue lies with AirSet. There is nothing that I can trace in my usage of AirSet that might lead to the multiple copies of calendar events.

Rather than offer details of my system info (laptop, smartphone or tablet?) I would rather again offer access to my AirSet account if there is a possibility of a user error.

  • Fran doesn't mention that these duplicates also compound over time, so that a given series appointment might have thirty or forty duplicates on each day it occurs if you neglect to delete them daily.

The most common cause of multiple copies of an event in a multi-device setup is the result of a "Sync Loop", in which multiple sync services are in use, creating multiple paths between devices You only want one path between any two sync points.

An example of a sync loop would be AirSet being used to sync between Outlook and a mobile device, and then using some other sync service to sync directly between Outlook and the mobile device. What happens is that new data appearing on a device is replicated by each sync service to the other devices, and the new copies end up being copied in both directions around the circle... creating duplicates each pass. Each sync services creates a new copy, so if there are multiple paths, you get multiple copies.

The problem is described in the sync troubleshooting area of the user manual here:

    https://www.airset.com/AirSet.jsp#app...

After making sure you've eliminated any sync loops, use the Calendar's Tools > Sources... menu which will look for duplicates created by sync and allow you to remove them.

  • Thanks Doug!
I have several phones for use in different countries, and two ipads as well as two laptops, and several of them by default use the iCloud, so that is most probably the cause.

  • Doug - Its unnecessarily restrictive to confine sync in the way you have suggested.
Surely an event can have a unique ID that would prevent duplication across sync sources.
Even if we constrain the sync as you suggest there is still a "back door" issue that cannot be resolved.
Example: three devices A,B,C with the following "single" paths.
A<>B, B<>C and C<>A. This satisfies your constraint but still allows duplicated entries as C can sync with A.
I have Outlook, Smartphone and Tablet all working against each other and I hate to have to delete and reload my AirSet account.
Its not unusual to have the above situation in the field. Hence the problem.
I do hope it can be resolved.
If Airset cared to make it an issue, even upgrade it to a premium issue, I would be willing to pay for the feature.
To me this is a real dealbreaker for a program such as AirSet.

  • I can see that a "star of david" type of sync arrangement would cause needless copies of an event to try to sync against each other and fail, ending with duplicates as there is no ID to solve tie breakers.
But as I say, I NEED my devices to talk _around_ the table, with no cross talk permitted.

  • I am actually pleased that this issue is finally getting an airing and response from AirSet.
Judging from some of the Get Satisfaction datelines for issues it looks like weeks (OK maybe months or years...) can go by before an issue is given some traction.
I hope this changes - 'cos I'm just about done beating up on this.

Hi guys - to research specific sync issues, we need for you to first contact us via the"Feedback" link in AirSet so as to be able to identify the account involved (GetSatisfaction is a different company).

I can can speak to the general issue of sync loops here. iCloud is mentioned, this is a good example. If with your iCloud you are syncing with devices A, B, and C, but you would like to sync with AirSet and through AirSet devices D, E and F, then the way to avoid sync loops here is to choose one and only one common device that both iCloud and AirSet sync with; iCloud then propagates those changes within A, B, C, and AirSet propagates the changes within D, E, F. The two sync clouds are connected through one device only.

Such a setup is sure to avoid sync loop issues. Note that if a duplicate does get created, wherever it happens (which can be any device or cloud from multiple vendors trying to decide what to do with events coming in from multiple sources, and trying to avoid what would be perceived as an errant deletion), it will be get replicated all around - which is why it's easiest to avoid it.

We can't control the behavior of individual devices, nor the other sync solutions involved, but can control AirSet obviously - I'll get in review the handling of incoming duplicates on our end to see if there's more we can do than we're already doing.

At present, we have the Tools > Sources... feature for detecting and removing such sync duplicates ... and the above advice.

Hi Fran, if there's not another sync solution involved, it will be easier to look into. r.e. cleanup, the idea is to use the AirSet tool to detect & delete duplicates, then sync to each of the devices... which should replicate those deletions to each client.

But please do contact us via the "Feedback" item in the account / settings menu, we will be interested to know the set of devices you are syncing with - e.g. Outlook, Android phone, iPhone, etc. as various different sync solutions are involved with each.

  • To attempt to summarize:

    W(Web Browser), A (Airset), T(Tablet), S(Smartphone), O(Outlook), Bi-sync (<>)

    1. Most of my events are added/modified/deleted via Web Browser to Airset (W>A)
    2. Some of my entries are added/modified/deleted to Outlook, then sync(bi-directional) O<>A, using AirSet Desktop Sync
    3. Some entries are added/modified/deleted to Smartphone, Smartphone syncs OTA with Airset (S<>A)
    4. Some entries added/modified/deleted to Tablet, Tablet syncs OTA with Airset (T<>A)

A is ALWAYS hub. There is no cross-talk (no S<>T, O<>S, O<>T) and no iCloud.

There may be some instances of another member user posting events with me as a participant AND sharing the event notification to one of our shared workspaces.

However the replication issue still intrudes and I have no way of resolving it without removing and reinstating the AirSet service.

Outlook does not suffer replication, but the Smartphone and Tablet do.

Since events get added to only one device, I cannot see how they could get duplicated back onto itself multiple times - does an event not have a unique ID?. Events might get added to one device, then subsequently get modded on another device after sync - but surely that's the whole point of the use of the system.

I can post some screen shots to illustrate if necessary.

    Fran
