[Feature Request for MPC Live]: Add Routing for MIDI-Tracks in Channel Mixer

I just submitted the following feature request via:

[Feature Request for MPC Live]: Add Routing for MIDI-Tracks in Channel Mixer

In channel mixer, all mixer types except the "MIDI Tracks" have routing to the outputs.

Please include Routing also for "MIDI Tracks". This would be great routing drums, keys and others to the different outputs in standalone mode just like Audio Tracks.
The many output are the killer feature of this device.

Thanks for consideration.

I am looking forward to a very soonish release of the next firmware update.

Kind regards.

  • Hey mendobeatz,

    Thanks for posting!

    MIDI tracks cannot be routed to an output as MIDI tracks do not contain or transfer any audio. MIDI tracks are used to sequence and send MIDI data to external MIDI instruments. You can choose the output port for your MIDI sequences from the Main screen so I suppose it could be useful to also be able to route the MIDI port from the Channel Mixer. Be sure that your feature request reflects that and not an audio output port!

    Thanks for your feedback!

    Yes, this is what I would like to have.

    This mean that the desired function would do:
    All key groups under track "Piano" shall go to output port 3.

  • Hello Nick D,

    is this request under consideration?

    I would like to have project templates where I can configure 4 MIDI tracks which go to 4 different outputs, e.g.
    Track 1 (Drum) --> Out 1
    Track 2 (Keygroup) --> Out2
    Track 3 (Drum) --> Out 3
    Track 4 (Drum) --> Out 4

    It's tedious to program the outputs each time again!
    • I think there is some confusion about the language we are using here. A sequence contains several tracks. Each track has a type, the type determines what program type can be associated with them. A MIDI program is simply a name to help you identify a given (external) synth. A MIDI program on a track is associated with a MIDI port and a MIDI channel (also bank and program change). The same program on another track could have a different association. In contrast a drum, synth or keygroup program is associated with an (audio) output. If you use the same program on another track it will use the same output; you need to copy the program to have different instances going to different outputs. You should be able to set things up however you wish and save that as a project template.

      I think the feature you are requesting is that you be allowed to specify an audio output on a track level such that any drum/keygroup/synth program placed on that track will use the track's audio output. Since the output is part of the program and not the track, this is currently not possible. I can understand how this might speed things up if you have fixed mappings (track 1->output 1 etc). In that case you could just load up your programs on the appropriate tracks rather than having to go to the channel mixer to reroute each one.

      Yes, this is what I am looking for. It would be very useful for a multi-track set-up.
      1 output to each strip in an external mixer
      In a DAW we also route by track and not by loaded content...
