I’m unsure

(XR20 + EIE) + Ableton

I can hear sounds from Ableton / APC40, MIDI synth and my PC via speakers connected to EIE, but I can't figure out how to get sounds from the XR20 to play through EIE. Ultimately I want it to work with Ableton (as an instrument, not a MIDI controller), but looks like I'll have to take it one step at a time. Currently using two 1/4" cables (that are known to work with other equipment) from Main Left and Main Right outputs (XR20) to Audio Inserts 1 and 2 (EIE).

  • Hello Jason,

Thanks for posting. I'd be happy to help!

The INSERT ports on the EIE and EIE Pro are not actually "Inputs". Insert means that you can patch in FX and other processing to your inputs on the front. For example, say you've recording vocals through a mic plugged into Input 1 on the front. You can use an "insert cable" (a special type of "Y" cable) to add a compressor and reverb to that mic signal as it goes into your software. So, you're recording those effects in realtime.

In either case, you'll need to connect the XR20 to one of the four available inputs on the front.

Let me know if you have any other questions.
