Ability for MPC Live/X to send MTC and midi clock, simultaneously

I have my Live set up going to a DAW and several synths (I'm a fan of standalone mode). My problem is, the DAW takes MTC, but the synths take MIDI Clock, so I can't have both synced, it has to be one, or the other. Is it technically possible to have an option that would allow it to send both?

  • Hey JD,

    Thanks for posting!

I see why that would be useful to your setup. It really depends on what you have set as your master clock. If your DAW is sending the master clock, you can differentiate the Send and Receive parameters in the X/Live's Sync Preferences. Select MTC as the receiving clock type and MC as the sending clock type. The Live will convert the time codes accordingly.

Keep in mind that MIDI Time Clock and MIDI Clock are inherently different. MTC is based on real time whereas MC is based on BPM. It is tough to say how reliably the MPC hardware will be able to convert between the two.

If the MPC is providing the master clock, you will not be able to send simultaneous MTC and MC. In which case, you may need to reconsider your setup.

Hope this helps! Let me know if you have any questions.
