Akai Force: Plugin MIDI Channels

Hi
In the Akai Force, in the manual says:

To load a plugin to the track:
(...)
3. Tap Select to select the plugin, or tap Close to cancel.
To select the MIDI channel the track will use, double-tap the MIDI Ch
field. In the list that appears, tap the desired channel. Alternatively, use
the data dial or the –/+ buttons to select a channel. Use this setting
when you are working with a virtual instrument plugin that supports multimode, or when an external device is controlling the track from a certain
MIDI channel.
(...)

BUT:
when i load a plugin track, i can configure the midi channel, f.e. channel 1
I have connected a Keystep.
i only can play that synth with that track ON, i mean, active.
If i change the midi channel in the keystep still playing....
if i set another track to active, and i play keystep in channel 1, it does not sound

so.... it does not work.... or... what are that midi channel per track for?
for midi outputs does not work too....

in midi tracks it works ok, but not in plugin tracks

or there is some config that i am missing?

  • Hey Pablo,

    Thanks for posting!

Though there is the option to select a MIDI channel in the Track Settings for a plugin, the Force will receive MIDI data from all channels (1-16) regardless. For instance, say you have multiple MIDI controllers connected to the Force. Each controller is transmitting on a different MIDI channel. Even if you set your plugin track to receive from a MIDI channel associated with one controller, the selected track will still receive from all controllers.

My guess is that this parameter was made available in the settings as a place holder for future plans to implement multitimbral MIDI.

The MIDI Out port can send multitimbral MIDI, however. Keep in mind that the MIDI Out port is only activated when using a MIDI track. Plugin tracks will not transmit MIDI data from the DIN port.

Hope this helps! Let me know if you have any questions.
