I’m Extremely upset

AKAI has failed me and I'm heated!

I am highly upset with this mpcx and will never buy another product. It waited until after my warranty was up a d started to act up ... now 3 paid projects fail to load after being save properly. I saved it on a thumb drive ...all my others load except for the one I just made a saved and bow I have to back and remember the sounds and sample chops and do it all over because it won't load and the software won't work with mpc x in controller mode - it'almost like it's too different programs. None of the stuff on my standalone is on the computer version so I am forced to work on standalone a d it's frustrating. I spent like 6000 on akai equipment and this mpc x is giving me issues ! How can I get those projects to load? I can't turn it in because I'm out of warranty. I feel like I wasted 2300$ on this device . Can anyone help me fix this problem? It just starting doing this with newest update. How do I get them projects to load? If not I'm getting rid of this device because it has been giving me some issues. Akai should be ashamed! It seems like it's a bug in the device put there by akai to force you boy equipment...just a feeling. The program won't sync properly with the standalone ....now this! Please help - I'm willing to pay to get this resolved .

  • Hey Troy,

    Thats frustrating.

Did you update the firmware in the x or just the desktop software?

If you make a new test project with some chops is in it and save, does it load ok?

Did you mean that the software can't load any projects made in standalone?

    John
    • I have it update far as hardware a software I have saved projects with chops bit particularly ones will not load properly after being saved on a sd and everything being done properly. I'm not sure why the program and the hardware is not sinking properly . Perhaps that's on my end but not being g able to load these tracks upset me because someone paid for them. I filled my mpc x memory up because I was stupid didn't get a sd or harddrive but I have one now a d I am having this issue especially after the most recent update. Please help.

You may have to revert back to 2.6 firmware in Standalone. Then Try and load the Project file in 2.6 to see whats salvagable.

I believe 2.7 is not a Complete Upgrade, especially if you're not using the Abelton Link features.

2.6 is the Most Stable in my opinion

  • Hey Troy,

    Thanks for posting!

I'm sorry to hear that you're having trouble. There are a few important details to clear up here. When the MPC X is in controller mode, you cannot access the X's internal drive. Instead, you are using the X as a MIDI controller and audio interface. This means that you will be operating off of your computer's hard drive, not the X's. For this reason, all included content is made available in your Akai account for direct download to your computer.

In addition to installing the included content, you'll need to install the MPC X driver. This is necessary to connect to the MPC Software in controller mode. This can be an involved process because there is a lot of software. I recommend referring to this guide. It will walk you through the entire process of preparing for controller mode:

AKAI PRO MPC X, LIVE & ONE - DOWNLOADING AND INSTALLING THE MPC 2.0 SOFTWARE

In regards to the Projects not loading, I recommend trying to do this from the MPC Software. Connect the thumbdrive and open its contents from your Desktop. In order to open a Project you must have a .XPJ file and a ProjectData Folder with matching title names. They'll look like this:

    MPC Project.xpj

    MPC Project_[ProjectData]

Do you see both of these files on the thumbdrive? If so, try and open the Project in the MPC Software. Do you receive a particular error message?

Try this and let us know how it goes!

    • The files are currupted because the thumb drive was currupt....I purchased a new flash drive and next month I'm getting a 3 terabyte portable- can I recover or fix those files ? Only project data appear ....how do I get a previous version saved on the thumb drive? I can't use auto save because it would corrupt the project. I saved the file to the computer but it won't play because file is unrecognized or they are currupt. It just keeps saying project failed to load and then the name bit I can see that the fouls are there but because of the currupt ones - it wont load.
    • So, at the end of the day - this isn't an issue with your X or Akai at all. Your thumb drive is corrupt. I guess the moral of the story is don't save just one copy of a project as your only source. Always backup and make copies. ALWAYS.

If I were you, I'd install a quality SSD into your X on the bottom internally and always save a redundant copy of your projects on a reliable SSD. Then always have a redundant copy on a high quality thumb drive. Then always have a third redundant copy saved on your computer somewhere else. Then back that up to the cloud or someplace offsite.

Finally, make sure you are always EJECTING your thumb drives from your X before you remove them. If you're just pulling them out without EJECTING them first (from your MPC's browser), then you are corrupting them yourself.
