APC40 MK2 - Lock Bank to Scene?

Hello,

I have an issue about live performances.

So for example, I have two completely different songs with clips in one Ableton Live project.

First 8 tracks is one song, the other 8 tracks is another song. I can't place it vertically because all midi instruments are different.

So what I need is lock 8 tracks bank to a scene. So when I launch the scene it has to play only first 8 tracks scene. When I complete to transition to other song and I will select to second 8 tracks and launch it.

So is there a way for it or how you guys solve this 2 or more songs in same project issue?

  • Dear Eliza,

    Thank you for reply.

Maybe I can split my full songs 8 tracks X 5 scenes then I can align my tracks cross horizontally and choose them by shift button.

Am I close to what you mean?

  • Hey Alihan,

    Thanks for posting!

It's possible to deactivate clips in a scene by either right-clicking on the clip and selecting Deactivate or by selecting a clip and pressing "0". Better yet would be to mute tracks 9-16 while 1-8 are playing and vice versa.

However, for the smoothest transition, I suggest creating new scenes for the entire second section. For example, instead of having your clips for Song 1 and 2 across one scene, try creating new scenes for the second song:

Let's say that I have 4 tracks per song and 8 tracks total. Song 1 is represented by the yellow rectangles and Song 2 by the blue rectangles. This type of organization is beneficial because it will allow you to transition quickly between songs. You can even play clips from both songs at the same time providing many interesting possibilities for arrangement and live performance.

Hope this helps! Let me know if you have any questions.

  • Eliza,

Thank you. I think I need to minimalize my workflow a bit.

So what should we for Song 3 and Song 4 then? Creating new scenes starting Track 9 and Track 13?
