Controllers W/ light up pads, that correspond to midi mapped track mutes

is there any controllers that work with the mpc software in conjunction with the mpc live that will light up the corresponding pads when i midi map the track mutes to the other controller?

  • Hey Closed Loop,

    Thanks for posting!

The MPC hardware line is specifically programmed to reflect the state of a Track Mute pad. However, only one MPC can be connected to the software at a time. You'll be able to MIDI map the function to another controller but the LED will not remain on. This is due to the fact that a generic controller doesn't have the appropriate remote script to feedback MIDI data.

One possible solution would be to set the pad to toggle instead of momentary. The LED will remain on but you'll have to press the same pad twice to mute or unmute.

Let me know if you have any questions!
    • Its too bad, i have an mpd218 and an apc40 , is it possible that you guys will ever come out with a controller that will light up the corresponding pads, or an update for it to work with akai controllers?

I also think its kinda crazy that there are no midi map templates for either mpd218 and the apc40, considering they are both AKAI products you would think there would be some midi map templates set up for them. There's all kinds of templates set up for 3rd party controllers but not the two that i own that akai makes

      Thanks for your reply

  • Hey Closed Loop,

I haven't heard specific plans to implement that feature but I can pass along your feedback to the team for consideration.

The MPD218 does have a control script in MPC. Click on the MIDI Learn button and then Enable. You will be able to select the MPD218 from the drop-down menu. If you need to further customize your controller, activate Learn to assign different parameters.

The APC40 doesn't have a control script because this hardware was designed and manufactured exclusively for Ableton.

  • IIRC the MPD218 only acts as an input device to MPC Desktop and it's LEDs will not reflect the state(s) of MPC Desktop. The pads will flash according to MPD218's settings, but will not light (for example) when a mute is enabled.

There are some reversed engineered SysEx commands which can affect/control the pad lights, but these are highly technical and 'use at your own risk'.

It might be possible intercept some MIDI messages to sense when mute is activated.
