Copy a saved Project to USB or currently loaded Project to USB

As a stand alone, I don't understand why this task isn't as easy as 'point and shoot', the logic behind the 'save' flow / function on previous MPCs is really easy and self explanatory.

Is this even possible on the MPC X ?!

the "shift SAVE" combo just seems to Save the project to the location on the Hard Drive where it was originally saved. Even when I open the 'Browse' window, I am presented with a location and almost nothing else... if I set my directory to another location (USB), and I can view the files in a USB folder, 'Shift+Save' doesn't save in the newly designated folder... it still just saves to the original location.

I really don't get this 'save' convention on this MPC X, I can't save Programs, I can't save Samples and I can't save Projects with a pop out dialogue window like in previous MPCs... that was really useful and easy to grasp.

  • I'm super confused by the file management myself - if I understand your question correct, I do have an easy answer though:
insert your SDcard or USB whatever and boot your machine, load your project, tap the folder icon at the top and select "save as", on the left column you'll see your card/usbstick (and your local drive). select it and name your project, tap save. it'll create the project file as well as a folder with your samples and program. in fact this was my only way to locate my samples which are god knows where on the internal drive.. hope this helps

  • Hey Jan,

Yeah, I don't see a "Save As" anywhere... I see hard keys where I can hold down "Shift" & the "Browse" button... but if the Project is open and I press "Shift + Browse" it doesn't take me to the Save or Browse window... it just saves the Project.

It does not make any sense at all to me.. it really does polarize logic.

not in front of my MPC, but push the 'MAIN' (hardware) button when you have loaded your project. now on the screen, at the top is a little folder icon, tap that and up comes the dialogue I mentioned.. with "save as" at the bottom row of the dialogue.... hope that helps (I'm on a LIVE)

ahh yes... that did it, thanks Jan :)

IF any one at Akai is listening, maybe "Shift + Save" should provide more rounded options for ... "SAVING" ?!

  • Hey everybody,

    Thanks for posting!

After saving the project the first time, any subsequent save data will be directed to the original directory that was chosen. As Jan mentioned, selecting the folder icon in Main mode will open the Project menu where Save As... can be selected. Save As... will allow you to select another location in which your project can be saved.

If you have an idea for the MPC hardware or software's workflow, be sure to submit this as a feature request with the MPC 2.x Software's built-in feedback module. The feedback module is represented by a smiley icon at the lower right side of the software next to the browser icons. This information goes directly to the Akai team for consideration!

If you need an alternative method of submitting feedback, you may use the following links:

MPC - Submit a Feature Request

MPC - Submit a Bug Report

I hope that's helpful - thanks for your feedback!

    Thanks for helping out, Jan!
