Creating a Pumping Side Chain in the MPC X or software

Hello everybody

I prefer to think that I had to miss something to not succeed in creating a Pumping Side Chain in the MPC Software ... no?
Because I can't believe that Akai didn't plan to make it possible. In 2017.

Does somebody have an idea?

Thank you

  • We definitely need side-chaining but I’m the type to always say do I currently have something that will accomplish this task, what I would suggest is use your Daw to perform this task, alternatively you could draw the volume automation in. I know this is not what you want but it will get the job done. I come from an era where we’d use 2 boom boxes and a microphone to do our track recordings.

    Thank you Jonespnice

Doing it with the volume can make an illusion, but it's still not like a good compressor. Laborious if you want to modulate or change the rhythm.

I will do it with Digital Performer. It is for this kind of reason that I tried first to work with DP rather than MPC 2.0 but there is too much latency and we lose many features of the MPC X when used as a plugin.

I come from an era where to record a MIDI sequence on a 24 tracks it was necessary to start from the beginning of the song even if the sequence was at the end :)
But one quickly becomes accustomed to luxury :))

  • Hey Marti,

    Thanks for posting!

There is currently no sidechain effect on the MPC hardware itself. In the MPC software, you could try using a third party plugin that can generate sidechain volume effects.

Sidechaining on the hardware has come up in the past so I would also recommend that you submit this as a feature request with the MPC 2.0 Software's built-in feedback module. The feedback module is represented by a smiley icon at the lower right side of the software next to the browser icons. This information goes directly to the Akai team for consideration! Thank you for your feedback!

You also mentioned that some features are unavailable on the MPC X when you are using it in controller mode with the software - what specific features are you referring to here? Let me know!

    Thanks Nick for your reply.

Sorry to respond a little late.

I first tried the third plugin but there is no possibility to assign an audio source when I open them in the MPC 2.0 software. Indeed the drop-down menu allowing this is in the part of the window specific to the DAW. The only one I found that has the menu in the part of the window specific to the plugin is the Motu compressor but they are in the MAS format. I did not have them all but I could try a few.

Thank you, I actually saw this, you encourage me to do it. I still have difficulty believing that my wishes or remarks can influence an industrial process.

Regarding functionality, I spent the first three weeks trying out different ways to use the MPC X.

Standalone: I quickly abandoned because no possibility of third-party plugin. In addition, the edition of the midday events is laborious. To erase it is necessary to do three manipulations (select the notes, select the eraser and finally erase). No event list yet.

With a DAW in sync MTC: I tried as a slave and master and in both cases the latency is unbearable. Almost a half or even a full before it synchronizes. I have a Mackbook Pro 2.7 GHz i7 with 16 GB and a SSD. I even considered changing DAW but the two that I have tested have more or less had the same problems.

With DAW in plugin mode: why not
    - you can no longer record audio via the MPC X,
    - the transport buttons no longer work,
    - you can not load registered projects in controller / MCC 2.0 software mode

Remains use in controller mode with software MPC 2.0.

This is my first MPC, so I'm not an expert and I admit that it would have helped me if I could find examples of configurations. Besides, perhaps, many of the things exposed here are due to my ignorance.
