Deleting sequences

Hi there - is it possible to delete sequences on the iMPC Pro app?

It's pretty annoying that if you drag a sequence to a pad accidentally, there's no obvious way to delete it - you can only overwrite it.

  • Hi,

    Thanks for posting.

At the moment, I don't see any way to delete a sequence from a pad in Song/Sequence mode, but they can be deleted from the arrangement mode when putting them together in a song by hitting the "-" next to the sequence.

I'll be happy to add this as a feature request for you though! Seems like not being able to delete sequences can be trouble for any workflow.

  • Thanks very much - I'm having to revert to an old project and remake all my changes because my latest version of the file has an unusable bank of sequences so this feature would save lives!

Also - is there is a way to copy sequences between banks? e.g. from A1 to B1?

    Thanks

  • Unfortunately, no to that one too. It's easy to change the sounds on the pads (drag/drop/delete), but not as much functionality for loading sequences. My guess is it's assumed there will be enough time to switch banks before having to trigger the next sequence, but this isn't always the case.

I'll add this to the feature request. It'd be nice to be able to hold down the pad in maybe sequence select mode and have options similar to the sequence editor: Copy, paste, delete, etc.

    Thanks for all your input!

  • Hi,
can anybody tell me how to delete sequnences in Project in MPC Essential? If right-clicked the sequence in Project (Sequnces) no option shows up nor there is any obvious way how to delete stuff you need to! Same with samples on pads. Once dragged onto the pad it can not be deleted?

    Thanks

  • I came across this post hoping to find out how to delete a sequence in MPC Element (on Mac), but found out how to do it through trial and success. I have some insight on deleting sequences in iMPC Pro, as well.
***At the time of writing/replying to this post, I didn't do a deep dive into forums and this feature may be addressed or not. I have the latest version of Element and needed answers. Perform at your own discretion***

    -MPC Essentials
Inside your project's folder (in my case "a bowl of jungle_[ProjectData]"), there's a file called "All Sequences & Songs.xal." Opening this file in the Text Editor reveals all of the project's sequences. Before making changes to this file, be sure you have a backup of the project and then back up the .xal file, as well. I created and left the backup .xal file in the project folder.

Once you have your backups, open the working file .xal (the file MPC Essential will use, aka the o.g./original .xal file), locate the sequence that you want to remove and change the value from True to False, then save and close the .xal. Re-open your project and you should see (unused) next to the troublesome sequence in the SEQ drop down and absent from the Project area next to your samples!

I've found that the same method to copy sequences to new pads works the same way for deleting them. The difference is you'll need a blank pad to make the change.

Typically, if I'm going to make changes like this, I'll be sure to make a duplicate of that project/song to keep a backup, then start making those changes on the original (the copy will have the title that you gave it with the word Copy next to the name.

For example, if you have four pads in a row, from left to right, and pads 1 - 3 have sounds on them to make your sequence loaded on them, you can use pad 4, which has no sounds on them to clear up sequence 3. Simply drag + drop pad 4 onto 3 and this will erase the sequence.

Even though there's no content/sounds/patterns on pad 4 to make a sequence, it's still technically a sequence, its just a blank bank ready for some programming.

The internets is huge and Akai is still making moves releasing new products, while the Essential may (or may not) still be in use by some, but hopefully I was able to contribute to someone else out there who hasn't been able to get the latest and greatest software/hardware from Akai!
