Does MPX8 plays real stereo?

Does MPX8 plays real stereo? Got a brand new unit, last firmware, but when I play a only Left-channel stereo sample it also sounds on the Right, lower but it sounds.

  • Hey jejio,

    Thanks for posting!

Yes, the MPX8 is capable of sending Stereo signal to both the Main Outputs and Headphone Output. Do you hear the same behavior happening from both outputs?

If you do, this is most likely due to the nature of stereo balancing. For example, if your sample isn't panned hard left (L4), you will still hear remnants of the sample in the right channel. When you pan from center to left, the left and right channel volumes are inversely affecting each other. The left channel's volume will gradually increase while the right channel will proportionally decrease.

So unless your sample is panned to the absolute left or right (L4 and R4 respectively) you will still hear some audio in the opposite channel.

Hope this helps! Let me know if you have any questions.

  • Thanks for your answer Eliza.

May I didn't explain well. I don't mean how to pan a sample with MPX8, but how MPX8 plays a stereo sample that was previously panned all to the left.

If I play this sample with any player it will only sound in the left channel, but playing it in MPX8 it sounds like 60% Left and 40% Right. So the stereo signal is not in the real balance.

  • Hey jejio,

Ah ok, I understand what you mean now. There could be a discrepancy between the stereo field widths. It would be best if you imported a mono sample initially, especially if you are going to pan it hard left in the MPX mix anyways. This should help to get a clearer stereo image.

Ok, that's what I supposed. I asked a friend to try the same sample with his MPX8 and it was the same problem.

Then I understand that MPX8 do not plays the real stereo image of any stereo sample.

This is a big problem, I really think AKAI should fix this issue.
